Deaf. I have a student who is blind and work with several who are deaf. Much harder being blind.

Deaf. I'm a very visual person.

Deaf, I can't imagine not being able to see my husband, babies, or the world.

Deaf. There are so many advances and ways to communicate. There are cochlear implants, hearing aids and sign language. It's a lot easier to learn to cope and care for yourself and others without your hearing, but without your sight? Much more difficult and potentially dangerous.

My husband has lost half his hearing and sure it's hard, but it is completely manageable.

Deaf. I would miss hearing the sweet voices but it would harder not seeing the beautiful girls grow and change.

Deaf. Then I could get a cochlear implant.

That's really really hard! My natural instinct is to say blind because I can't imagine not hearing my children laugh, listening to music, hearing DH's voice, etc. But in reality it's much easier to adapt to being deaf through lip reading, sign language, sub titles, etc.

Both would be really hard but I would pick deaf. I couldn't imagine not seeing my baby grow up!

Would anyone's answer change if it was a "from birth" situation? Like what if you were blind or deaf when you were born....which would you choose then?

Deaf. I'm an ophthalmologist so lots of firsthand experience with the blind. It's much easier to function in the world as a deaf person. You can still drive, find employment more easily, read, etc.

Deaf. I'm a super, super visual person, so I would struggle a LOT with not being able to see. It would make it hard for me to understand much of anything! Plus I read a book every couple days, so giving that up (or having to learn braille) would be horrible for me.

Deaf. I'm an art historian, so going blind would be pretty disastrous.
