...how much do you spend on clothes for your child per month (or averaged out)?
Just trying to get a handle on what's normal. I think DH feels like I'm spending more than I should/could be so I'm curious.

Very little, we have a lot of hand me downs (and DS2 gets all of DS1's clothes!). Only random expenses like new shoes or a dress shirt for an event.

I go through shopping phases. I'll go months without buying a thing and months where I BUYALLTHETHINGS. I'm going through a shopping phase, getting basics for DS#2 and summer clothes for DS#1 and a few fall pieces in bigger sizes! I think I've spent 200$ in the last couple of months for both of them.

DD was gifted so much clothes + hand me downs that will last through 18 mo... But I have been buying headbands & bibs so I'm still spending something.

I would like to stick to about $50 a month. Now that I'm stocked up on hand me downs from two sources and I bought a fair amount of new and used clothes up to 2T plus gifts I expect to just have to round it out on an as needed basis.... sleepers, swimwear, seasonal items, special occasion clothes etc.

DS had a bunch of hand me downs, but we still bought some cute outfits that were on sale in bigger sizes. We rarely shop for him unless he needs something so there will be months we buy nothing and then one month were we spend ~$50 to buy him things he needs for that season. Go through another no-buying season before the next one comes up and buy again.

Wild guess here
$60-70 a month?
Although I tend to buy in seasons and not monthly

We are lucky to get a ton of hand-me-downs, but I still can't resist picking out cute shoes and special occasion outfits. I recently spent about $100 on a pair of new shoes and some Gap sale items, but that was the first I'd spent in months.
I imagine if I had a girl it would be much, much harder!

We have gotten a lot of gifts for LO #1 and a lot of hand-me-downs; everything else I buy sparingly and cheap/on clearance. I can also go 3 months without buying anything at all, so I chose the $25 option. I've never really tracked it though--I know on Black Friday, I spend $75 on 3 pairs of SKR shoes for Lo. They were all 40-50% off, but still a big splurge for me.

Probably between $50-$75/mo. I'm taking into account shoes, underwear/undershirts, ss shirts, ls shirts, jackets, rain boots, rain coat, winter coat, spring jacket, holiday wear, etc. I typically buy used and will buy in bulk when I find great deals or am at a consignment sale.

@mrsjyw: Same here.
I went a good 5-6m without buying DS a single thing. Then I realized with summer coming, he didn't have any 3t stuff and went crazy shopping. Hopefully I won't have to spend anything until Fall now.
My problem is, I can't just shop a little bit. I have to buy everything at once and then put myself on hold, otherwise I end up spending and spending and spending.

I voted $25-$50 range. I'm not really sure! Some months it seems like not much and than others one pair of shoes is $50. But I do not buy used and DS1 no longer has hand me downs. I also do buy some new things for DS2. They grew at different rates at different seasons plus I feel he deserves some of his own brand new clothes.
This also doesn't include any special items I buy them like monogrammed holiday shirts or something similar.

Maybe $50/month? I buy seasonally and spend a couple hundred when I need to (mostly used). She is gifted a lot at Christmas and bday (right before spring/summer).
I've spent a whopping $30 on the new baby coming, ha! A friend gifted me trash bags full of clothes!

Almost nothing except for some random stuff here and there like I bought him a pair of crocs on Zulilly last month. Hand me downs and grandparents have kept us well stocked.

$100+ but that's with 3 kids...actually, probably $100 every two weeks
Our kids don't have cousins that can pass down items or anything but I do look for decent sales. The kids are constantly outgrowing shoes also.
The only way I could cut down the cost would be to stop shopping a baby gap & Nordstrom. Ohhh and probably accessorize them less? Just using one jacket instead of jean jackets, vests, layers? But I have fun dressing them...so...I'll cut the budget somewhere else lol

@HLK208: right?!? It's so fun dressing them! My DH doesn't get that. M needed a bunch of new things because she outgrew her 9 month stuff overnight and I spent $70 last night on some necessities (not even fun things) and DH looked at me like I'd grown a 2nd head. I barely (if ever) buy M cute accessories and I'm doing the best I can to keep it cheap but I think he expects that I should be able to do it for even less. But man, when she's a toddler, he's going to have to be okay with some cute accessories and outfits. I'm about done with the basic onesies and pants haha!
That said, his mom is a big time thrift shipper and I'm not one for thrift store shopping so maybe he's comparing her shopping style to mine? I don't know.
Thanks everyone for your input! I'm feeling a lot better about how much I spend on my two and feel like it's about average! I just wish I had more hand me downs in the pipeline like some of you do! That's awesome.

@BandDmommy: same here! Well, we have received a few but they are 7-8 years old and not my style and most were heavily stained. No thanks...

I buy almost exclusively used, so I am able to buy cute stuff and stay within our budget. I spend less than $20 per month and now that we are done having kiddos I can trade in clothes that are outgrown, which offsets enough to cover one kids clothes. we are getting to where we can't do used shoes for lo though, so we are going to have that additional expense to get 1 good pair of shoes new a couple times a year.

Some months none others a bit more but averaged out probably $25 per month.
persimmon / 1386 posts
I buy most of her clothes at consignment sales. She has so much clothes and I love dressing her, but I don't spend more than $20-25 when it is averaged out by the month.
pomegranate / 3643 posts
I buy a few things when they go up in sizes or seasons change. But it probably averages to $25 a month. We don't get any hand me downs, but I shop sales and clearance exclusively.

Some months I don't buy anything, then other months I spend $200 in the month. All depends.
coconut / 8472 posts
I don't really buy clothes every month. I tend to buy around $100-$150 each season. Then shoes every few months. I also like to go to a semi-annual consignment sale when that comes up. I guess it would all average out to about $30-$50/month.
grapefruit / 4442 posts
I buy per season and its usually 50-60 for the season. If i see something super cute it may cost only between 5-10
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
I buy exclusively new but on sale. I don't buy ahead because I find I do better if I stack coupons and codes rather than shop clearance. I keep costs under control by purchasing one kind of sneaker, but in 2 pairs to rotate. I'll be honest, shopping has lost its appeal, I do it out of necessity and I've realized my son likes things a certain way so I stay away from certain sites and stores now.
eta: $50-75 a month

@looch: I think my husband is counting down till it isn't fun for me anymore!
pomelo / 5093 posts
Maybe 300 for the entire year, I think. Including a new jacket yearly, new warm pants, new shoes twice a year. I've got a good stash of used keens in the next few sizes up, so that'll go down. Not a lot on shirts/pants/shorts etc. Those things I tend to buy on great sale, or thrifted.
grapefruit / 4584 posts
100+, but I do but in big spurts - like the last two months I stocked up in the winter sales, niw I'm buying some summer necessities. I plan to chill out on the shopping as the weather gets nicer and we are outside more, near the computer less. I also have the problem of having two girls and using that as an excuse to buy more in quantity/spend more on quality items that will last,
kiwi / 556 posts
I shop exclusively used/sales. Maybe $25/month.
I generally aim for under $3-5 a piece and succeed, even though I'm picky about quality and, if used, brand
