I have 3 car seats (2 infant and 1 convertable) across the back of my Honda Accord so I'm a bad person to ask. I refused to buy a new car when we found out we were having twins unless the car seats would literally not fit. However, when they get a little older I'm hoping the Pilot has better gas mileage. I like the MDX better but the Pilot is so much roomier. I'm just a big baby about gas mileage.

We have a Highlander which is fine size wise 95% of the time and we bought a thule roofbox for roadtrips. I have 3 kids and we put all three in the second row, otherwise the trunk is way too small. I went with the Highlander because it drives like a car and has about the same interior space compared to the other cars we were looking at (Infiniti QX 80, Acadia, Yukon and Audi Q7). We are probably going to get a bigger car soon as we will likely have a 4th and our almost 4 year old is already into hockey and I am DREADING it. .I should probably get a mini van as we have no need for towing capacity, but we are probably going to get a suburban or escalade (both of which I hated driving compared to the Highlander!). We also have an audi allroad which is the perfect 2nd car! Good luck!

@Chillybear: I guess it depends on what kind of dog you have...There's a bit of room for a small, but I also have two convertible car seats that I feel like it takes up a lot of space ( 2 Safety 1st ones). The trunk is adequate, but I wish it was a bit more roomier. When I had the stroller frame in there along with an umbrella stroller and the misc "stuff" it was cozy haha
But I love my Crosstrek, I've had it for 2 years now and still love it!

@lavender: Our dog is a 65lb lab mix. I'm the primary kid tote arounder but when we do longer drives like heading to the beach we tend to take my husbands car since i currently have a kia soul (tiny!) looks like if he is really set on a crosstrek we'll be upgrading my car shortly after.

@hilary: I get 22 in town and 26 on the highway. I was really surprised although its nothing like the accord I'm sure.

@Sparkler: we traded in our highlander for the suburban. Highlander just didn't have enough room, unfortunately. I did love our highlander.

@tequiero21: Good to know. How long did you keep the Highlander with 3 car seats? We have 2 radians and a infant car seat and it seems to be working okay for now, but it's only been a few months. In my area I have to parallel park often and I have no idea how I will do that with a bigger car! Do you like the Suburban compared to the Highlander?

@Sparkler: we didn't have three car seats with the highlander. With two convertible and one infant, would have been too tight. Yeah, I would hate to parallel park with the suburban. Luckily, I haven't had to often and usually, I can just pull in somewhere with lots of space. It comes with rear camera so that helps a lot. It's obviously much easier driving the highlander. The suburban is a beast! But it's a nice ride if u live in the suburbs.
