what'd you write your thesis on?
Just curious! I haven't officially selected a topic yet but I'm starting my thesis this semester!
I put this under "work" but feel free to move it if there's a better fit!

What's your area of concentration?
My topic was something along the lines of how aid foundations may be harming 3rd world countries by the way they offer aid...maybe creating dependencies and maybe offering aid without doing thorough research beforehand. For example:
Did you know that UNICEF sent formula to mothers of infants in SSAfrica so the babies would not starve (thinking that the famine would cause mothers to lose their milk) but then they cut it off after 6 months. Guess what? Mothers were so dependent in formula that they stopped BFing and their milk dried. Now, kids are 6m old and no more formula is being provided by the aid organizations. Guess how many dead or nearly dead, malnourished infants there are now?

@googly-eyes: my Masters is in sociology however my bachelors' degree is in social work and social work is what I plan on working in, ultimately.

I did a capstone project (we had a choice between that and a thesis). My Master's is in Postsecondary Administration & Student Affairs, and my capstone was basically a presentation on my student affairs philosophy.

I didn't. My school had the option of thesis or two more classes, so I did the coursework. I did have a 20+ page paper on the representation of birth order as shown in Little Women by Alcott.

I did an action research project on improving literary analysis skills in high school English students.

I'm a semester away from finishing my Masters of Library Sciences, and I chose a field study over writing a thesis. My undergrad thesis was on female insanity in 19th century American literature.

mine was a mixed design study on the no child left behind act and the education of english language learners in the state of missouri.

@Mrs Green Grass: mine was action research based, too! It was on critical literacy in the primary classroom.

Thesis was not part of the program. My capstone course project was a group effort. My major individual research project was on Consumer Confidence and Prescription Drugs.

My masters is in Library Science and I didn't have to write a thesis. I did have to write a 20+ page paper but I cannot for the life of me remember what it was about. It was almost eight years ago.
My bachelors is in History and I wrote my thesis on Eleanor of Aquitaine and her influence on her son, Richard the Lionheart.
ETA - I had to write a thesis-like paper for my educational administration classes and wrote about PBIS - positive behavioral interventions and supports.

I had the choice of a special project instead, and I picked that. I am an art therapy major so I did a video about art therapy, specifically working with children after hurricane Katrina.

The trauma narrative and survivors of sexual violence. Basically I wrote about how the trauma/PTSD narrative can be limiting and restricting, specifically in clinical therapuetic work with survivors, but also culturally.
I got my masters in social work

My thesis was a project (my Masters is in Interior Design). I designed a special education school.

I didn't have to do a real thesis. We had to write a paper about each of the program's 5 competencies & how we can relate it to something we have done in the program and in real life.

@Mrs. Cowgirl: I loved action research - nice to have immediate application and relevance.

Didn't have to write a thesis... they added one to the program right after I enrolled (Masters in Public Administration)

No thesis required for my program. We did have to do a capstone project with a group of students. Mine was assessing the economic impact of a military base on the region & state. It was interesting, but the part I worked on only wound up being 2 pages of a 100+ page report, so I do feel like most of the semester was a waste of time. I almost would have rather written a thesis, lol.

No thesis for me, either! I had a semester-long "portfolio" requirement, supervised by my adviser where I had to submit a portfolio of all my major work (essays, research, even some tests (!) from my whole grad career), along with some personal essays about lame stuff about work goals, philosophies (with research), etc.
They would pretty much reject everyone's porfolio the first time around and make you go back and add more stuff, etc. It was a pain.

@Lozza: syndromic treatment (treatment based on symptoms rather than testing) is sensitive and specific and can be recommended though more study was needed.

@Mrs. Jacks: Very cool, and I'm glad you thought it was a good idea! (I worked for a social marketing NGO in SE Asia for a couple of years, and when I left we were just starting to work with local private clinics on training in syndromic management of STIs, so I'm glad you thought it was worth pursuing!)

I'm always afraid people outside of the literary world are going to laugh at me when I tell them the titles of my paper & projects. We had a final paper + a class to teach + capstone project, but not exactly a thesis.
My paper was about the case for folk singer-songwriters as poets, with a focus on Ani DiFranco My class: Tapping Into Trauma: Sometimes the Bad Stuff Can be Good (for Your Poetry). And my capstone project was getting a bunch of photographers to take pics of people with scars (big and small) and then having poets write a poem based on the photos.
I loved getting my MFA!

I have an MFA in creative writing. My thesis was a 100-page collection of short stories.

@mrsjazz: My 2 year old is obsessed with Ani DiFranco's song "Little Plastic Castles" because she yells "Yeehaw" in the middle. He requests it ("Yeehaw song, mommy!") every car ride and giggles maniacally when he hears that yeehaw.

@DigAPony: YAY! Another MFA
Oh damn. I guess my final manuscript counts as a thesis, I totally forgot about that. Mine was a book of poetry.
@Lozza: Hahaha! Maybe I should play that for my LO. I used some lyrics from Little Plastic Castles as the opening to my paper. Your LO has good taste in music!

No thesis required for my program either (I'm in a distance learning program). However, I know I'm going to have to write a substantial paper for my professional intership class which I plan on writing a proposal and curriculum outline for a Hospitality and Tourism Program at the University of Montana.
