Do you only books out loud that are geared towards the older LO?
I only read "story" type books that will keep my older LO preoccupied and LO 2 listens in the background. One of our EI therapists reminded us to keep reading simple picture books because it is good for identifying words and building language skills.

I read both. My 4 year old still likes the simple ones.

we read books that are olive's level when we read to both of them. Charlie still enjoys them but we usually do chapter books at bedtime and do bedtime separately for both kids. maybe in 2 years we can read the same books!

I don't remember how old your older one is but what if you try letting them "read" some simple board books to your youngest? It might be fun to get some wordless picture books too and take turns making up the stories and naming various things too, that way you feel like they're both getting something out of it.

@Cole: she is 2.5 and she likes to "read" Brown Bear and Pete the Cat! Good idea about picture books!
