Do people ask if your DH wants a boy? I get this all the time as we have 2 girls. My DH does not care in the slightest. He has our older DD out on the ladder helping with Christmas lights, mowing the lawn, fixing stuff, and for a while she even peed standing up like him.
On the other hand, I'm also from a girls only family and my dad very obviously wanted boys so that was really hard growing up.

Yup, all the time. Or "You have to give him a boy next!" Yes, let me have a talk with my eggs about only being impregnated by boy sperm, because you, stranger, said so.
In our case, yes, dh did want a boy. But we got 2 girls, which I am thrilled about, and he is still hoping to do all the things with them- teaching them about golf and skiing especially, coaching their sports teams, whatever sport they like.
I am really close to my sisters so anyone who knows me knows how happy I am with my girls.

We get it a little bit but we are done... I know DH would have liked a boy (just like I would have wanted a girl had we had only boys) but he loves our two girls like crazy and is happy that they will have that sister bond that my sisters and I have. Plus he doesn't want a third, boy or girl, so we are done 
My dad had 4 girls and growing up I never even got an inkling that he wanted a boy (I still to this day don't know if he did?). So I was very appreciative of that!

I know people said things like that to my dad sometimes. He says he never cared about having three girls and didn't care what the grandchildren would be but now that all the grandchildren are boys, you can see how much he's enjoying that boy time. So for some dads the boy time might just come later!

DH loves his girl and I don't think would mind a bit if the next kiddos were all girls!

We have one daughter and are trying for another child. DH has zero qualms about the potential of another girl and we'll be done at two. The way we see it, we're parents of children. I'm not a hopeful "girls mom" just as he isn't keeping his fingers crossed for a "little slugger." Sex does not determine personality, interests, talent, or relationship. My husband knows how I feel about this, so if people ask him, he doesn't tell me.

Yes! Nobody ever asks me but he said that's always the first question people ask him when they find out we have two girls. He actually preferred having two girls.

Yep we are getting this now that we know #2 is a girl. People are shocked when I say he has no preference and is content with his girls. I don't know if we will have more or not but its annoying!

@Charm54: my dad has one boy and four girls. The first two grandchildren were boys and he said something once along the lines of "who would want a girl?" I, his daughter, was currently pregnant though hadn't told them yet, and I was really pissed. He was kind of joking but I know there was a grain of truth.

People have asked both of us. I brush it off. Truthfully, I think we'd both loved a boy, but now that we have 2 girls, we obviously wouldn't trade them for any other baby in the world.

I never understood why people (especially strangers) think it's okay to insinuate that a family isn't complete until there are children of both sexes.
So, we can't do "boy" things like play sports, or build something unless we have a boy? I don't think so.
There is nothing in this world that is only a "boy" thing except a penis.
My two girls are wonderful.
My eldest (3) loves traditionally "boy" things just as much as she loves dressing up as a princess. Just this morning she had a tea party for zombies.
It just annoys me when people assume my daughters won't want to learn how to build stuff, or go climb a tree, or play traditionally boy sports like hockey. Ugh. Sorry. Done now.

We have 3 girls and are asked constantly, AT LEAST several times a week, if we are going to try for a boy, or if DH is "bummed" that he will never have a son, or "Your DH must be going crazy!" Or, the most common, is.... "Poor DH....."

@Finfan: I have 2 girls, and our immediate family is 1 boy followed by 6 girls. I'm the last one left to have babies, and from when I fell pregnant with DD1 all I hear is "boy boy boy" from a wide range of stupid people. DH loves having 2 girls, and spends so much time with DD1 doing all sorts of typical "girl" or "boy" things.
If anyone asks me if we are "going to go for a boy" I'll be sure to ask them exactly where I need to go to get one.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: to be fair I sometimes say poor dh, but more when I'm thinking of the preteen and teenage years. It's a lot of hormones (remember I have 3 sisters). But not poor him that he has two wonderful (usually) daughters.

@catomd00: It's SO annoying. My husband kind of looks like a really manly guy so people are like "oh he must want a son to play football blah blah". Well he hates sports (I'm the sports fan but mostly baseball) and neither one of us would let our kids play football anyway.

@LCTBQE: This! It's disheartening to know that men still somehow warrant mourning and sympathy for having a healthy family that is primarily female.
I'm sure mothers of multiple sons get comments. But in my circle, it seems more of them get, "queen of the castle" remarks. The fathers of 2+ daughters are still quick to get, "oh man, I'll pray for you" head shakes.

I am the youngest of three daughters and my dad was not very subtle about his desire for a boy. He was only open to one name and for a girl they just changed the spelling so I grew up so embarrassed with my masculine name especially since there were two boys in my class with the same name. My sisters took gymnastics and dance and my parents put me in basketball and softball. So I think if you look at cases like that it's why people ask!

@LCTBQE: you know what? I should be fair to the peanut gallery as a whole. I've gotten as many "oh it's so great to have sisters" type comments as "you have to give your husband a boy" comments. I don't care much about the off hand comments, only when people keep pushing it.

This is a bullshit construct. If someone made that comment to me, I would ask what exactly is so terrible about having a girl. Girls are not un-relatable aliens, and boys are not guaranteed to be football-toting jocks. I was actually much closer to my dad than my mom growing up, and I always hated Barbies and liked math. It's really awful to make a child feel that her parents are disappointed in her gender.
Sorry, but this sort of thing really makes me see red, especially as an educated woman who works in a male-dominated field. Our society really needs to move past this sort of regressive thinking. If someone makes this sort of comment to you, please use it as an opportunity to put them in their place.
