We are close mileage-wise to one hubby's side of the family and about an hour + from my side of the family and before kids, we stayed home on Easter. It's a tough holiday being on a Sunday and we actually just told the other side of the family that we were going to the other side's home. haha! It was great. Now that we have DD we did go to hubby's side last year and probably will again this year. I have no real desire to spend 2 1/2 hours of our day traveling in the car when we can easily see our family another time. I totally do not blame you for wanting to skip and if you can get away with it without too much flack, I'd say go for it. We both work and we barely have enough time on the weekends to keep up with house things, so we don't feel overly guilty if we say no to something. A bit guilty, but usually enough where we can live with ourselves.

We almost always go to my parents house, they live about 1.5 hours away. We split Christmas between my family and my husbands (they live 45 minutes apart).

We have decided (and are looking forward to...) that when we are in a house instead of a tiny apartment we will just invite everyone to us for Christmas. Probably will continue to do thanksgiving at my parents because extended family comes to that as well. Easter isn't a big deal for us, but we will probably do egg hunts at our house and whoever wants to come, can.

I go visit my parents pretty regularly, like once a month if my husband is working weekends. It's not a bad drive and the babe will usually just sleep the whole way. Plus, when I get there I can veg out because they are excited to play with my daughter!

Easter is tough, I don't consider it on the same level as Thanskgiving or Christmas, so given the activities, we wouldn't go.

My parents are a half hour away & my ILs about an hour. Even with both families being in close proximity, holidays are tough to balance. It's even crazier with kids.

A few years ago we started trading holidays. We alternate thanksgiving and Easter each year, and do Xmas day with my family and Xmas Eve with my inlaws.

This year we are going to the beach for Easter. I'm not sure if this will become a regular thing but it made the most sense for everyone this year -- my brother & sister live out of state and it was easier for us all to meet at our beach house than them travel home!

We live a few streets away from my parents. We spend all holidays and most Sundays together, either at our house or theirs.

We live 20 minutes away from both my parents and my in-laws. We see both sets at every holiday and it's exhausting but there's no way out of it since we're so close.

I usually like to get in front of the holidays and offer to host. This way if people don't want to come, they don't and I have made other plans.
