When did you start gaining weight? I thought I was gaining a lot since my belly is big but I'm still 2 lbs under my pre pregnancy weight at 14 weeks 5 days. Saw my regular Dr today for something else and he was a little concerned by my lack of weight gain. He says he will send a message to my OB and the Dr who is watching over my gestational diabetes so they can make sure I'm on track.

With both pregnancies, I lost until 20 weeks, got back to my pre-pregnancy weight around 30 weeks, and then started losing again towards the end. Overall, I gained 8 pounds with DD and 12 with DS. Both kids were totally healthy, though.
I'm sure you'll be fine! Your body knows what to do, and you'll gain the weight you need to grow a healthy baby!

@Honeybee: ok, whew! I guess I'm supposed to gain 25-35 lbs for this pregnancy so I have some catching up to do with the holidays! I think I'm too cautious with eating right now...still trying to figure out this GD diet!

@autumnlove: Have you cut back dramatically on your carbs/sugars? If you changed your diet a lot, that might attribute to your problems gaining weight, too
Hopefully your doctor/nutriotnist will be able to give you some pointers on gaining while keeping your GD under control!

I didn't gain any wait until 2nd trimester..and now nearing the end of 2nd, I'm only up by 5-7lbs pre-pregnancy (and I am pretty petite to begin with). I ask about it at every prenatal appointment because this seems worrisome but the midwife/nurse don't seem to be concerned. My fundal height is increasing as normal.

I didn't gain any weight until the second trimester. It is pretty common since so many of us are so ill for the beginning of pregnancy. I definitely caught up...but I will spare you on the horrors of my third trimester weight gain so you don't get traumatized....

I didn't gain until 19 weeks I think it was....had a perfectly healthy pregnancy and baby weighed 6lbs9oz. Some women just don't gain as much in the beginning.

I didn't gain until 20 weeks and I was probabl y 24 weeks before I was back to pre preg weight. My OB wasn't worried a bit. I'm now 37 weeks and up 19lbs from pre preg.

I gained in the very beginning, bloat, and then lost it but got back up to
+6 lbs by week 20. In the last 2 weeks I've gained 4lbs but it goes up and down still. I'm not worried because I see my stomach growing now and it seems to be growing fast! -
I was very similar to Honeybee.

In my second trimester. I rocked it out at 45lbs over those two trimesters. Haha. I didn't have the problem of GD, though.

@Honeybee: I have cut down sugars and starches dramatically since my GD diagnosis.
My GD nurse just called because of my Dr's message and we went over my food logs for the last few days. She says I am not eating enough and she scheduled me for an appointment for tomorrow so she can give me suggestions on how to add more food safely! -
I had a preggo bump at 14w even though I was down 9lbs! (Morning sickness).
I didn't start gaining "new" weight until 22w (although I had gotten my original 9lbs back back then). -
I didn't gain anything at all until about 15 weeks. Then, in the last 3 weeks, I've gained 5 lbs! Yikes. My OB said, "This is America. We eat. I'm not worried about you not gaining enough."
Clearly, she was right since I jumped up 5 lbs. right after that.Oh, and I definitely have a belly that is way bigger than 5 lbs worth!

I didn't have GC, but I lost weight in my first trimest. I didn't start gaining weight until I was 15 weeks.

I started regaining back the weight at the end of the second trimester. I had one big jump (7 lbs in a month) at my 28 week appointment. So I was only up 2 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight at my 32 week check last week. I lost around 15 lbs in the first trimester.
With DD #2 I only gained 20 lbs, so I am guessing I will end up around there if I go to my due date with this one.

I didn't start gaining weight till about 18/20 weeks. My last appointment was at 25 weeks and I had gained 12.5 lbs. I have an appointment Thursday (almost 29 weeks) so we'll see where I am then...

My experience is similar to @MamaMoose:
I lost until 15 weeks. Started gaining at 20 weeks and I was probably 26 weeks before I was back to pre preg weight. I'm now 35 weeks and up 15lbs from pre preg.
Obviously your situation is special because of the GD. Even though many of us have lost/ not gained and been OK your doctors advice is much more valuable. Glad that you're getting together to discuss.

I didn't gain anything until 16 weeks. Then I started gaining at a good pace.

I didn't gain much through my pregnancy at all (maybe 8 pounds total) and lost until about 16 weeks. I had GD as well, and I was told to go nuts on the proteins and fats, and just keep my carb intake to a 2:1 protein serving to carb serving ratio. Also, I only ate whole grain carbs whenever possible.
I was eating eggs, nuts, cheese and meat like my life depended on it, but it worked well. I kept my house/lunch bag stocked with peeled hard boiled eggs, string cheese, and little baggies of nuts. I also had protein rich snacks within my grasp at all times.

I started gaining about a pound a week around 14-15 weeks for both pregnancies.

i just looked at one of my pregnancy apps where i was tracking my weight weekly. Throughout my first trimester i had a net gain of zero because i lost and gained several. By week 14, i was actually under my prepregnant weight by a couple of pounds. Then from week 15 and up, i started gaining very consistently. sometimes even too much for my liking! Tomorrow i will be 40 weeks and am up about 43 pounds!

I'm 32 weeks and still about 5 pounds below where I started pre-preg. Keep in mind that the GD eating plan is so balanced that you may not gain a lot.

I gained the majority of the weight after 30 weeks!

@autumnlove: Glad to hear it was good advice! I had a good experience with my GD, I was actually so well controlled on my own (no insulin and not needing much guidance) that they discharged me from the GD program well before the end of my pregnancy, and just told me to keep doing what I was doing.

i lost 5 lbs up until 13 weeks then started gaining steadily from there. by 16-17 weeks, i reached my pre-preg weight and then it kept going up from there. i gained about 25 lbs total.
