We have a second garbage can next to our regular one in the kitchen that we don't put a bag in, we just fill it with recyclables. Then once it's full we dump it in the large bin out in the garage. Our trash service offers recycle bins larger than our trash bin, which is awesome since we recycle so much.

We have pull out trash can & recycle bin. Once that's full we put it in another special big bin just for recycles.

We have a bin behind our garbage bin. We do put a garbage bag in it because DH is afraid of the garbage people spilling everything all over our lawn. We also have a big recycling tote that's just smaller than our rolling garbage town. The town collects weekly.

@Bao: Can I say that I'm super jealous that your recycle bin is bigger than your trash bin? I wish our area would do that without you having to ask 10,000 times.
We have two recycle bins that we keep in the kitchen, and once they are full I move them to the bin in the garage. It's pretty dinky though and most weeks it doesn't hold all of our recycling.

We have a box that we put in the garage right by the door. When that gets full, it gets dumped into the large bin on the other side of the garage. We have a pull out garbage can but it's not big enough for a recycle bin too. I would love it if it did as my parents always had one.

Stupidly we just use a paper grocery bag next to our trash can. It's ridiculous though because we fill like four bags a week with recyclables and not even s whole bag of garbage.

It's a dual trashcan and recycling trash can with auto open. Once one side gets full, we transfer it to the larger bins in the garage.
We have dogs so we gotta keep the trash and recyclables from them. We, also, don't have a big pantry to fit our trash can.

We have our big recycling trash can in our garage, which is right next to the kitchen. We keep the lid open (since it's just cardboard and such, nothing smelly) so I can open the door and throw stuff in there while cooking/putting groceries away.

in the cabinet under the kitchen sink. I put them in TJ's paper bags. Then I just put the whole thing in the recycling can when it's full.

We have the big giant container the county gives us just sitting out in a little open area by one of the doorways in our kitchen. I kind of hate it, but I hate not recycling more...and there's nowhere else to put it.

Our giant recycling can is just outside our laundry room door. If it's raining or we're feeling lazy, we'll put it on the counter right next to the door. Once a day, one of us will take it the extra 5 steps to the giant recycle can outside.

We had custom cabinets put into our kitchen when we renovated and had a garbage drawer put in...but the thought of garbage in there (right beside the stove) grosses me out so we use it for recycling and have a stand alone garbage can. We have a blue box in the garage to empty it into when it's full and have the huge rolling bin that gets picked up outside.
Eta - my in laws don't recycle and it drives me bonkers! The 1 conversation I had with her was awful, she said she didn't care and that she never will

We have an enclosed back porch where our freezer, washer, and dryer are (plus most of our seldom used kitchen appliances). There's three plastic bins back there since our dump only recycles paper, cardboard, and plastics. I hate throwing away glass bottles but they don't take them! I'm not sure if they take metal cans or not...

Same as you, two garbage cans in our kitchen cabinet and we just empty it into our recycle bin. Our recycle bin usually gets full before our garbage!

@bluestriped bee: how do you find the size of that? We usually barely fill a standard sized kitchen bag each week and want to avoid switching to something smaller. And what do you line the recycling side with? Would a paper grocery bag fit without being crumpled? We looked at a simple human one like that but decided it was just a smidge too small but it was set up differently inside.

We live in an apartment building. We throw our recyclables in a little shopping bag and bring them downstairs every morning. You have to recycle in nyc or your building can get in trouble i think.

We have a separate garbage can for recycling (plastics, cans and glass), for paper recycling we leave it in our mud area the the back of the house and put smaller paper products in boxes and then take it out on recycling day.

We have a decorative basket that sits on our sideboard in our dining room / kitchen. When it gets full we empty it into a giant blue bin in our alleyway.

@Cole: I wish the two compartments were both slightly bigger. But it works for us. We fit a normal regular size trash bag into each side. So a paper bag would not fit. Each side is quarter moon shaped. When the recyclable side is full, I'll take the bag and dump the contents in the recycle bin. I'll then save that bag to line the trash can side when that gets emptied.
I looked at the simply human one but didn't like the smaller recycle bin. I know I wanted something that would hold enough trash and recyclables and this is what I ended up with. We fit it at the end of our island so it's the perfect size where it doesn't stick out. It would be nice for it to be a little bit bigger.
For reference, you could fit a gallon size milk container in either side. Though, it wouldn't be practical because it would fill up a third of your container.
DH has done it a few times.

We have a small bin on our counter behind the sink, when it's full it gets dumped in the big container outside the house. When we have people over I just hide the bin under the sink.

Same as you - smaller bin next to trash then we bring it out. Our town picks up recycling weekly, trash bi-weekly.

We have a big recycling bin in our kitchen, beside our fridge. We keep garbage under the sink.
