Do you keep your old clothes for the fabric?
I am trying to learn how to sew and have also been trying to get rid of clothes. I have a bunch of worn, soft t-shirts that I am saving just for the fabric.
Am I the only one or do others do this too??

I do!! Although, my craft room is getting a little unruly, and I haven't had time to sew in FOREVER, so I'm thinking about just finally donating it all

I think it's a great idea. I was looking for old sheets and fabrics yesterday and wishing I still had some old items I could re-use instead of buying new fabric!

I'm starting to, but only certain fabrics. I'm not that confident with knits, and usually my tshirts are too worn to do anything with.

Some items - but I mostly quilt and most apparel fabrics wouldn't really work. I am working on a t shirt quilt though ("working on" = the shirts have been sitting in my craft room for months) so I was able to purge a bunch of tees but will still have the memories.
Like @swurlygurl my craft room is unruly (out of control) so don't give me any ideas! LOL

I save stuff so I can practice refashioning it, like adding darts, for example, but I never really progress beyond straight hems.
I have a bunch of my husband's old work shirts that I am saving to make a quilt for my son as well.

@shellio: oh yes - My DH has gobs of PSU tshirts and he wants me to make him a quilt - I am so not there yet!!

T shirts sound like a great thing to save! Especially cotton ones. I've been squirreling away some nice fabric too. I keep meaning to redo some old dresses with it, and make a toy for DS.

@avivoca: I cut up grody old tshirts and use them as stuffing for toys and pillows
YES not only that, I am often gifted clothes from other people who know I sew/refashion/upcycle. Probably my favorite thing ever is a garbage bag of free old clothes, ha!

@scg00387: What a great use for old t-shirts! DH thinks I'm nuts because I have piles of socks around that are too worn out to wear or repair - I should use those!
