I know a lot of you shop at Costco but our Sam's Club is a lot closer to us, so for that reason we are getting a membership there. If you shop there what do you like to buy? What do you find not to be as good of a deal?

We have Costco and Sam's Club memberships, and there are quite a few things that we buy from Sam's because we like the option that they carry more. The things that immediately come to mind are Pampers Cruisers, bottled water, and organic milk. Oh and their bakery's cakes/cupcakes are a million times better than Costcos!
I will say that Sam's also seems to have more of a variety of things compared to Costco {but I believe that's because they don't have the same business philosophy}.
ETA: We buy meat, fruit/veggies, eggs, paper goods, laundry detergent, baby wipes, trash bags, soap, lotion, contact lens solution, cereal, snacks, and pantry staples at warehouse stores.

@shinymama: How much are the Pampers Cruisers? We walked around the store a few times but I didn't check the price on that.
persimmon / 1128 posts
@Bao: I can't recall the exact dollar amount, but I want to say it's $36.99 for the big box? Plus they're on sale a lot; I think they're $6 off right now.

We buy tons at Sams - diapers, wipes, formula, detergent, cleaning supplies, eggs, milk, meat, fruit, dog food, some snacks, water, beans, tuna, basically anything that doesn't spoil too quickly. I also pick up Carter's clothes when they have it.
persimmon / 1128 posts
@Bao: Yup. It's usually the same price as Babies R Us when they have a coupon promotion, minus the hassle of going to an additional store.

Yay Sams Club! Fancy breads, detergent, meat. Meat is SO CHEAP at Sam's Club! It's totally cheaper than even Walmart. Fruit, veggies, frozen veggies, butter, milk, cheese.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
@mediagirl: I did look at the meat prices, it was like $30 for 10 pounds of the good ground beef...that's a great deal! Now I just need to invest in a deep freezer

This is random, but Sam's has my favorite salsa ever! I think its called La Rosa? It tastes homemade. Freakin delicious.

We buy Cabot cheese, paper products (tp, paper towels, occasionally paper plates/picnic supplies), some meat, toothbrushes... Mostly at this point though gas. We keep toying with dropping the membership but wind up finding it easier to stock up on a few items. We can't go through the fruit and veggies fast enough and avoid most of the processed stuff so it cuts out a lot of stuff for us.

Diaper wipes, laundry detergent & dishwasher soap (cascade packs), toilet paper and paper towels.
We don't buy much of anything else there!

Both our TV's are from there
grapefruit / 4649 posts
@Bao: It's about 20-25 cents cheaper than my neighborhood, maybe 10-15 cents cheaper than other places nearby? I live right outside Detroit though so I don't always feel comfortable getting gas at those places.
blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts
@Bao: Bummer...I just went and tried to buy our cat litter at Sams today and they no longer have the one we use. They have bags of the non-clumping kind, but we use the clumping. Looks like we will have to go back to buying it at Walmart. Boo.

I just got this amazing pasta salad. I don't know what is on the pasta (the sauce) but on top of the pasta is chicken, fresh motz, tomato and basil. OMG.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
@Mrs. Lion: oh no, we buy clumping too...was it just the brand you use or all brands of clumping kind?
blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts
@Bao: I should have looked...stupid brand loyalty..I have been using the same litter for like a decade...it didn't even occur to me to look at what else they had haha

We love Sam's! We bought our mattress/box springs and a TV/mount there. Also ordered a futon mattress online.
On a regular basis we buy: dish soap, paper plates, paper towel, toilet paper, applesauce, green beans, Gatorade, flax seed (great deal), olive oil, protein shakes, Advil, Kleenex, etc etc etc
On a side note--in college my mom bought me a super sized box of super absorbancy tampons from Sam's that lasted me a few years...thanks Mom---my roommates got more than a few laughs from me lugging that box around...

@Bao: check gasbuddy.com to help you figure out if the gas savings is worth it!

@Bao: I find it ranges from five to thirty cents a gallon. I usually go there if I'm on alpine for something else.

Paper products, meats, some other various groceries, toiletries, things that will last in bulk (granola bars, canned foods, etc). We did just buy our first box of size 1 Pampers Swaddlers in anticipation of our LO this Fall and it was under $40 for a box of I think 186. The gas is nice, too. I would like to go to Costco, but it's like 45 minutes away at least!
