...Would you have stayed with Bill after the chaos of the Monica Lewinsky scandal?
I often wonder WHY she stayed with Bill. Half of me is in awe that she wanted the marriage work that badly that she stayed with him and the other half of me is disgusted that she didn't leave him.
Very random...I was just thinking about Hilary Clinton for no reason just now.

I would've stayed with Bill. I wouldn't have gone on TV with him though!

Admittedly, I have loved her since my youth so I'm probably a little bit biased, but I understand why she stayed. I am currently reading "Living History" (no idea what took me so long) and it sounds like they genuinely do have a really special relationship.
I also look at my own parent's relationship. My dad cheated and my mom tried very hard to make thinks work (forgiveness, counseling, etc.) but he simply didn't want to stay in the marriage. I have a ton of respect for my mom given that she truly believed in her vows and did her best to make a go of things for our family. I truly believe it's not for us to judge women in this position. No matter what you decide, you are going to have a tough enough time of things.

I don't know how legit any politician marriages are, honestly. Maybe I am bitter. My belief is that it would have damaged their political careers to get divorced, so it made sense to just stay together.

I always thought she stayed with him to further her career but I am sure they still have a special relationship. However, there is no way I would stay with a known womanizer. It is not like it was one time and with only one woman.

Nope. I think she set a terrible example for her daughter that it's ok to let a man treat you like that.

@mrbee: oh sorry I don't mean to say that her decision to stay in her marriage discounts any of those things. I still think she is an incredible woman. But from the perspective of setting an example for her daughter of what's ok in a healthy marriage I don't agree with her decision.

@MamaMoose: I'm betting a big part of her decision was probably based on protecting her daughter... Chelsea's turned out to be a pretty cool lady and is super close to her dad, so I think that part of things turned out ok!
