I am almost positive, down to the day of conception, of our dates for when I got pregnant. Because of that, (according to my Dr) I have no clinical indication for an ultrasound until the 20 week scan!! That just seems crazy. I can opt for the NT scan to get an earlier look (which my insurance covers so we probably will).
When did you get your first ultrasound if you knew when you got pregnant?

At 7 weeks because of an issue, but it was normally supposed to be at 8 weeks. Instead I had the 2nd one at 9 weeks.

6 weeks and change, but only because it was an IVF pregnancy, and we were sure down to the minute when the eggs fertilized. Friends of mine were at 8 weeks for dating, 12 for NT.

I got one at 8 weeks because of a previous loss...even though my cycle had regulated and I was sure of the dates they wanted to do a dating scan, and DH and I were desperate to see a heartbeat. If that hadn't been the case I think our first would have been the NT scan.

I was 6 weeks, but I was "supposed" to be 8 weeks according to LMP. I tried to tell them that I had long cycles and I ovulated really late but they didn't listen.

4.5 weeks, horrible experience. I had a pre existing appointment with a new Dr and they would not listen to me at all, they just went by LMP. I knew the exact day of conception since I was charting with my long/ irregular cycles but they still did an ultrasound which showed nothing in my uterus. And the Dr told me I was having a miscarriage! I left in tears and found a new Dr who did one at 11 weeks, by LMP they had me at 14 weeks so they wanted to confirm I was right, and I was.

@pinkb: I was terrified of that happening to me (esp because of a previous m/c) which is why I tried to explain when they made me the appointment. Thankfully, they listened when they were actually doing the ultrasound.

@lilteacherbee: It was literally the worst experience in my entire life. No matter what I said they would listen, I should have just gotten up and left, but at the time I didnt know what they would see/ not see at that stage of the game. That experience compared to my current OB was night and day....cant even compare really.

Office does a viability one at 7-9 weeks for every patient. Then 12-13 weeks for NT scan, if you want that done. Then 20 week anatomy scan.

First one was at 10 weeks. My OB told us she liked to do them at her first meeting with patients and didn't charge them for it, so that was nice!

i was semi sure of my dates, and i was feeling so blah from 1st trimester sickness plus taking care of an 8 month old so i skipped the first utrasound at 13 weeks and just went to the 20 week one.
they thought the baby was kind of small at the ultrasound so they pushed my due date 2 weeks! aww.... oh well!

Mine was around 5 weeks. My sister was an ultrasound tech and gave me the confirmation early.

At the practice I attend it's standard to do an ultrasound at the first appointment (whether you're sure of your dates or not), which is scheduled around 10 weeks. I was 10 weeks 2 days at our first appointment/ultrasound. If your insurance covers the NT scan I'd totally do it so that you can see baby!

I was sure of my dates and my cycle was regular so no dating iltrasound, even though I really wanted to see the baby! I opted for the nt scan at 12 wks in part just to see the baby and make it feel real. Insurance covered. My friends insurance didn't so she did t have on until 18 weeks!

I was sure of our dates so usually would only have had the one and only ultrasound at 20 wks. At my first apt though (9 wks) te doctor was surprised to hear the heartbeat with the Doppler. She thought I might be farther along than I was so sent me for an ultrasound. Turned out I was right - 9 weeks to the day! But I'm glad I got an early peek at baby out of it

We don't get a dating scan here in the UK, even if you have had a previous loss (you qualify for additional testing once you've had 3 miscarriages). The first scan is always at 12 weeks unless you have bleeding or pain. We paid for a private early scan at 7 weeks because we really needed reassurance.

@Emsmems: my practice said they like to see you right around 8 weeks for an exam, paperwork, blood work, and a dating ultrasound. So, the ultrasound sounded pretty standard to me. Of course, they are going by my LMP and say I'll be 8+ weeks on Monday, but I know I'll only be about 7 weeks. I'm curious to see how things will change after the ultrasound. So glad your insurance at least covers the NT scan so you can see baby!

My first ultrasound was about 8 weeks or maybe even at 9 weeks along to confirm pregnancy followed by gender scan at 20 weeks and haven't had one since...

My office does one at 12 weeks but I had an early u/s (because of a previous m/c) done at 8ish weeks. They don't do another until 20weeks. And actually, my SIL goes to a different OB than I do and they only do a 20 week u/s.

Everyone gets one at 8 weeks, it's called a confirmation of pregnancy apt. They want to make sure everything is ok before moving on with paperwork and make sure there wasn't a missed miscarriage.

@artbee: if I hadn't had a previous loss, my first ultrasound wouldn't have been until I was 10-12 wks along. As it was, my dr wanted me in at 7 wks, but my schedule wouldn't work, some went with 8 wks.

@pinkb: wow! I had almost the same experience! Crazy long cycles but they wanted me to come in right away bc LMP said I was 8 weeks, but I knew due to charting I was only 5. The doctor said it was not viable but I was sure of my dates so I pushed her to tell me that it would look right if I were right. They did my blood tests to show my counts going up and I went back in for another dating US that showed my due date was exactly the day that my charging said. Glad we proved them wrong!

We haven't set a date yet but the nurse said he will do one at 11wks.

I still had mine at the 10-week dating appointment. It allowed us to see the baby's heartbeat, which helped to confirm that the pregnancy was viable. Even though I was confident about the dates, my doctor still wanted to take a peek and double check that things were progressing normally.

I measured 5 weeks 5 days at my first U/S. my next one is 13 weeks then 20 weeks. if I had known dates I would have had to wait til 13 weeks

10 weeks, they didn't seem to trust my dates, but I wanted to see baby asap too!
Next time around I won't be as sure with my dates, 1) because I'm not paying as close attention with a toddler around and 2) I want an u/s as early as possible.

It's normal in my province to have your first Ultrasound at 20ish weeks.

I was working with an RE, so I had an ultrasound at 7.5 weeks. But if I hadn't done that, I woud've had one at 8.5 weeks with my OB's office. You should totally go for the NT scan!
