I think I would want to work at a jewelry store

I would want to work at Target! Sounds dumb, but I was a cashier in high school at Walgreens and I loved it! Plus who doesn't love Target?! Then I would get an employee discount

I'd work at a place I shop at frequently so I can get the discounts. Maybe at Target or Nordstrom's Rack?

@sorrycharlie: I think working at Disney would be pretty awesome! However, I'm not sure what I'd enjoy doing there. Maybe dressed up as one of the characters? Not sure if I'd enjoy being in the blistering heat though. Ha!

@sorrycharlie: are the bennies at the Disney Store the same as working for Disney at like ABC (Disney owns them). If you work for "the mouse" you get perks like 2 free passes to the parks every 6 months and discounts to the Disney store/stores in Walt Disney World. I worked for ESPN for a few years and man those Disney benefits were awesome!

I don't know if I would want to work retail again! I have done it a few times and just wasn't a big fan. My feet get tired quickly. I did enjoy catching shoplifters when I worked at Kohl's, though. People would bring up loads of towels and even though it's profiling, you look at the person, then decide if you're going to unfold the towels before you scan them. I found I could "accidentally" drop a towel on the counter and pick it up unfolded...along with a washcloth and hand towel!!

I think the Disney Store would be fun, but might get old after a while!

Realistically I would probably pick Target for the discount. But I think a nicer fashion store would be fun too, you would always get the chance to buy the cute clothes in your size right away.

I would love to work at a place like rei. My husband and I both have an obsession with outdoor gear.

I worked at Bed, Bath, and Beyond in grad school and really liked it. I was a cashier and registry consultant. I wouldn't mind going back there!

At a baby boutique or anthropologie!

I'd pick a really nice upscale pet store that's a few minutes from our house (Cutter's Mill). But Disney Store sounds tempting as well!

I used to work for Ann Taylor and LOFT. They were an awful company to work for so I only lasted a year between the two places.

I was going to apply at American Eagle, but decided I would hate any place where we have to promote credit cards and reach credit quotas.

There is a Whole Foods opening next year in my area and I'm totally going to apply there!

@mrs. bird: yeah we could definitely use the employee discount for groceries!!! We love food, and try to eat super healthy, but buying tons of organic produce every week gets expensive. This would help so much and I'd love it!

@Alivoo01: my mom works for Disney store, not Disney world but BIL worked for DW fixing the safari vehicles! There are sooo many options....characters or shows if you meet criteria, retail, food service, guides (for instance, hang on the trails in animal kingdom and point out the monkeys), etc.

@mediagirl: Yup I think they're similar. My moms worked for Disney store forever so her benefits are better than if someone walked in and got hired - it takes awhile to get the good stuff. But she gets tickets, merch discounts & 50% off hotels Only downside is that I can't enter any Disney sponsored contests because I'm related to her!

@Coco Bee: My high school bf worked at whole foods and loved it. And he is not an easy to please or pleasant person (to me), lol.

Per shoplifters, @mediagirl & @Mrbee, when I worked retail (specifically lowes) we had to scrutinize every shopper! Open boxes that weren't sealed, check carts, etc. If we caught something we actually received a bonus based on the cost of the item, that's how huge they were on shrink there! I also secretly loved bagging people. My mom (@ the Disney store) said people try to steal everything, it's nuts.

I'd want to work customer service for Zappos.com. I hear they are one of the best companies to work for. I used to work customer service for the online division of a family-owned Kitchenwares store in Philadelphia, and I loved doing it, but I wouldn't want to have to move back to Philly. SoCal sounds nice, though

If not that, I'd love to work for a used bookstore.

I worked at Gap for 8 years and love AND hated it at the same time. But if I had to go back to retail, I'd definitely work in a bookstore or a quaint coffee shop. OR, a flower boutique!

Barnes & Noble or Carter's...somewhere that I could benefit from the discounts!

I worked in a surf shop through high school, and loved it. It is still my favorite job to date. It may have had a lot to do with the staff, though. I made some amazing friends working there. But the discount didn't hurt, either. We were given 40% clothes, and 30% off accessories, including surfboards.
