What would you do to make them feel better?

When we went in this morning, the doctor said unless it hits 100, not to go in. He made sure LOs ears and chest were ok. Said he has a cold and it is all upper respiratory and not to worry. He recommended to keep baby's nose clear with saline and the respirator. He said los sore throat was probably causing the pain & crying. Other than that....nothing. I wonder what to do to help us get through this tear free?
He is miserable! Crying and whining all day with a bad cough and runny nose.

Eta: temp was 97.9 at pediatrician's office and *now* (6h later) it is 99.5.
