Lately, the LO hasn't liked Daddy doing her bedtime routine. I think it's because he's been working more and hasn't been able to spend that much time with her. It has happened before. But we don't give in and make her do the routine with him anyway. However, it's kind of heartbreaking for me to hear her crying and saying "Mommy, Mommy. No Daddy. No Daddy." But it's way worse for Daddy. He is very sad.

Yup! It's usually been a reminder to me that I have to make more time for the kids... sadly not always possible though.

It happened with us when lo was just a couple of months old so I don't know if my advice would work with a toddler. We did family bedtime, I would put her to bed but her dad would be with us the whole time. Then we started letting him put her to bed and I'd stay in the room. If she wanted me we'd switch. After a little while she got used to him and I would be able to leave the room half way through. Now we do every other night with no problem.

@artbee: I think I'm more sad for DH that he feels unloved from time to time. As for the bedtime routine, it's OK....it doesn't get messed up or anything. The LO will cry but will go to sleep at the same time anyway, when he does it, so that is good!

I feel bad that my hubs is home with LJ full time and she STILL prefers her mama at bedtime. Our rationale is always that she doesn't see me enough during the day so she needs to get her mama fill... but that's backwards from what you guys are experiencing. LJ surely does love her papa, though!

@Andrea: lo used to cry for my hubby too, which is why we started family bed time. Now there are no tears, and she is just as comforted by hubby as she is by me.

So sad. I make sure DH gets LO in the am if he's been out of town and he always does bath time with her too. She's young now so the traveling isn't a big deal.. curious to see how she does if he continues to travel when she gets older.

My husband is so worried this will happen to him and isn't sure how he'll handle it! He has sincere plans to work towards changing his working hours but it's still tough.

this happened to us at about 17 months, it was so sad. it's getting better gradually as LO spends more time with his dad, but it's tough bc of his working hours. even sadder is i think the nanny is his #1 right now, followed by me!

@Mrs. Jacks: i have never thought about a backwards situation happening. but of course they still love daddy, they just want mommy a bit more!
@artbee: unfortunately, it's not possible for DH to see her during the week days with her early bed time or else that would be a great idea.
@chopsuey119: true, your DH is traveling all the time, too. good that it isn't an issue so far.
@Rubies: yeah, can't always change work hours ...
@Sha: oh no! do you have a live in or live out nanny?
