@2littlepumpkins: chiming in to say I feel your pain. People having babies right now just have really good taste because many of our favorite names are super popular. C's name is around 100 which is great- I've met 3 others so far, total. But having a harder time for or second.

My son is half French and his name is hugely popular in France. It has been in the top 10 for a decade, but it is also a very classic name. In France, we know a number of kids with his name, and you hear it on the playground and out and about all the time, but it doesn't bother any of us. I picked his name out years before I even met my husband, so I definitely love it, popular or not!

He just turned 3 and so far not an issue. Yesterday he played at the park with a boy with the same name but he went by his full name while we use a nickname. We really have only come across a handful of kids with his name. There is one in his preschool class on opposite days so they haven't even met.

My LO's name was number 783 the year he was born, and there's another boy in his preschool class with the same name!

I have a super common name for my age group, and it's been completely fine. I wouldn't let it deter me if i loved a name.

@2littlepumpkins: My DD's name is top 10 and it has been fine. It was literally the only name we could agree on although I wished for something less popular--I just love her name! We definitely know of other people with her name, like an older sister of one of her classmates, a few colleagues' girls, but no one in our day to day life.

We just had DS and his name is top 20. I was much less worried this time because of our experience and again we know of people with this name but no one too close so far.

I say if you love the name you shouldn't worry too much about popularity!

From someone who has a top 5 name from the decade they were born: it sucked being one of 5 in kindergarten.

However if you look at the numbers these days, there is much more variety in naming trends and there are less babies per name as opposed to 25-30 years ago.

I was very against naming my LO a top 10 name and I didn't, she's in the 300 range. For my next LO though I wouldn't care.

@2littlepumpkins: we have an almost 3 year old James and we still LOVE it. Even though it's really common, we don't know a single kid or adult with the name strangely.

@2littlepumpkins: I have a very common / popular name and I always think it is nifty when I meet other people who have it and have had a few friends and classmates with it throughout my life. If you love the name then use it. It's your child and they are special whether or not other kids have the same name!

I think top ten names are just in general the trend. Not necessarily meaning there's a lot of those names IRL. My LO has a top ten name but we have never personally met another girl with the same name directly. Although one of these days, she will prob deal with having a same name in her class.

Funny story, but there's like 4 Harper's in her ballet class. And two of them even have the same initial. The teacher calls that name and like half the kids turn around

Jack is my #1 if this kid is a boy (my Uncle was a Jack, and I happen to love it) but DH is dismissing it just because it's too "popular". That just stinks since we'd choose it for its meaning and not just because it's trendy.

I've got till May to convince him otherwise! Unless it's a girl...
