We just do the same thing you described with letters. He turned 2 yesterday and he recognizes about 10 or so letters just from us talking about them a lot. I was a pre-k teacher for 5 years, so I guess I kinda use my background, but really, nothing too special! Just lots of conversations about letters we see in everyday life

We're not there yet, but we plan on doing the Timberdoodle Preschool curriculum at home. They suggest using the Montisorri Letter Work book, which uses phonics:

They also suggest reading lots of books that feature the alphabet, like:

Miss Spider's ABCs

The Alphabet Tree

Sometime around 18- 20 months, LO learned all the uppercase letters from a combination of that fridge toy, us reading a few alphabet books, and playing with the Melissa & Doug letter puzzle. When she turned , she started learning her lowercase letters from Chicka Chicka boom boom (especially the last page) and an alphabet sticker book.

But she learned higher level numbers from the Endless Numbers app.

I think she learned how to verbally spell her name from the wooden letters I have hanging over her bed. Well, and from me spelling it on her magna doodle. She knows her name, "mama" and "dada".

So I guess overall, just a print rich environment?

We have alphabet blocks and books. I would write out the alphabet (upper and lower) and we would just recite it and I'd point to the letters and ask her to tell me them. She knew the whole alphabet around 2 or so.

E is in preschool, but knew his ABCs before he started.

Dr Suess's ABCs, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Endless Alphabet (and Reader), magnet letters for the fridge, and bath foam letters. He's OBSESSED with the alphabet, though.

My son knew the alphabet before he ever started daycare! Partly from us singing it, but mostly was from the app endless alphabet. Still a hit to this day!

Tub letters, flash cards, magnet letters!

Books for sure! She loved Chicka chicka boom boom and the alphaprints books the best, but she also learned to sing the alphabet first by singing the song a lot before she really started learning to recognize the individual letters. She also has the fridge magnet toy.

Letter Factory is responsible for teaching my son his letters! He knew them all by 2. We then bought him Lauri puzzles to reinforce the movie and he looooooves them.

Another vote for the Endless Alphbet (and Endless numbers and readers too) app. I followed up with flash cards and bath time foam letters. DD is 2.5 and knows all of her alphabets and sounds associated with each alphabet. We're working on letter tracing and stronger penmanship skills now.

My LO learned his alphabet from listening to me read him alphabet books, a few toys and shows on PBS. It really caught me off guard one day when we were playing with an alphabet puzzle and he could say and recognize most of the letters. He was around 2 and his vocabulary was limited. Plus he had never attempted before. It made me realize that even at a young age, our kids are capable of picking up a lot of information.
