Did you actually raise your voice at the other kid? He shouldn't have done it but the fact that you reacted right away without giving his mom a chance to get involved and yelled at him (which your exclamation points imply), I would have been upset too.

Eh. If a child twice the size of mine and old enough to know better pushed a toddler I would have probably reacted too. I may have even corrected the mother verbally saying that her child was the one who pushed. But I'm...confrontational. I'm working on it

I don't get the whole "wait for the parent to say something", sometimes kids need to be told by someone else that behaviour against other children isn't acceptable. If the other mother doesn't like it, then they need to step up their supervision.

@MrsRcCar: Sometimes I find myself literally biting my tongue in an effort not to say something, so you did much better than I could have!! Bigger kids being physical against little ones grates me, it happens a lot at the play center we go to so I always keep my eyes firmly on her... two days ago a smaller child physically attacked my friend's 3 year old - full open palm slaps to the face and scratches while on top of him! He was with a non-english speaking grandmother and there wasn't much my friend could say while her son was screeching, but my heart was in my throat trying to contain myself!

I have no issues correcting other children in situations like this, and honestly, the shove alone justified a correction of her child if it was intentional. It sounds like you were fine.

The other woman's comment was out of line. I don't understand why parents behave this way--did she think her child didn't hear her essentially put her seal of approval on being a jerk?

Wow. I would have been super snarky and said something like, "damn right I got pissy, but now I just feel bad for your son because I know why he's a bully."

I would have done the same thing.

I yelled at someone else's kid for shoving my daughter while she was at the top of a slide. She fell hard on the slide and thankfully didn't call off of it. If someone else's kid is about to physically harm my child I'm not going to be polite and wait for their mom to discipline.

I would be if someone came at my kid with a closed fist, and then the parent blame-shifted onto me!!

Um, what?! I would have reacted the same way. If my child is being physically shoved you bet I'm saying something. If she wanted to react first she should've been there watching.

I have raised my voice to older kids at playgrounds who need to watch out for little kids, and I did snap at a kid who was yelling at my LO (half his age). And none of those kids actually pushed her over. I would expect another parent to do the same if my LO pushed their kid over. But usually the parents are nowhere to be seen when it happens- not sure how I would have reacted to the moms comment.

Today an older girl was trying to get past my LO- not pushing really and not mean, but her mom corrected her and reminded her how she has to be careful around the littler kids at the park. I seriously wanted to say something nice to the mom because i thought it was really nice but didn't know what to say, so I just said thanks.

Uh, I think you reacted perfectly appropriately. I would have done the exact same thing.

And I'm usually too pissed at the time to think quickly, but if I could have thought fast enough, I would have said , "yeah I'm pissy because your kid just pushed mine and tried to hit her. Not cool"

I had a weird thing like that happen in a store. My daughter waved to a little girl and the other girl ran over and pushed her really hard and meanly with both hands. It was super odd. I was shocked. I just said, "Please don't push anyone." The dad came over and got the other kid. DD was really weirded out. The dad made the kid apologize and apologized to me (the kid didn't seem to mean it, but at least the dad tried.) I think physical things like that are just inappropriate and odd unprovoked.

I would have done the same as you. I'm absolutely going to step in and stop a kid from hurting mine. I'm not going to stand there and watch it happen and hope the other parent steps in. What a B for being so snarky about it afterwards.

I am not going to stand there and let my kid (or any other kid) be pushed twice! The first time might of caught you off guard but you did the right thing with a verbal warning to prevent the 2nd incident. That mom is lucky you took the high road.
