Last night was weird.
Here is some background. Lo is 2 years old. His normal tantrums is getting upset and melting on to the floor for about 5 minutes and that's it, he gets up and plays again. We usually ignore him when he does this. This use to happen about 3 times a week.
Last night... he had a serious 5 hour the world is ending tantrum right before bed time. It was off and on while we were trying to calm him down.
Like hyperventilating, tears in eyes, snot running down his nose, constantly pulling us from this room to that room, hugging, wanting to be carried, not wanting to be carried, wanting mommy, wanting daddy, not wanting mommy, not wanting daddy, not wanting us to be near him, wanting both of us near him. I was googling like crazy to see what we could do. We tried comforting, we tried distracting... even when we managed to calm him down for a little bit, maybe 30 minutes to an hour later he would be back to total melt down mode. Eventually we let him have a good cry session for 20 minutes and he fell asleep on the floor of his bedroom while trying to escape the room. We think he finally wore himself out.
The process started at 8pm and it ended up with him finally asleep on the floor of this bedroom (which we moved him to his bed) at 1am.
I want to say he was overly tired because he skipped his nap that day but that has happened before and it wasn't WWII at bedtime. So we are kind of at a lost on what happened.
I hope this is the one and only time this happens but I was wondering if anyone of you have experienced this and if some of you could please please share some tips!
