Either I've got constant gas going on, or there's a little baby wiggling around in there. Anyone care to share how they could tell the difference?

Hah to be honest...I knew it was gas if I had to pass some a few moments later
For me, the earliest movements felt like tiny bubbles popping in my stomach. It felt much deeper than gas bubbles usually do, and didn't lead to any sort of bloated feeling. Pretty quickly, they turned into nudges and taps.

I agree with @hilsy85! the first few times I thought it was a gas bubble but then I realized it didn't really move anywhere. mine almost felt like a muscle spasm (a small one) and I noticed it more at night when I was laying down.

With my first, I could only tell when I had my first u/s and felt and saw the baby moving at the same time.

Like what @hilsy85: said, if it passed a little bit later, then it was gas, but if it didn't, then I knew it was DD. I also noticed thatI felt it in the same spot everytime.

@BabyBoecksMom: I always feel my flutters in the same place too. And they always get baby's heart beat in that same area. The kid seems to love snuggling into the lower right corner of my belly!!

In the beginning it was hard to tell the difference, My 19week ultrasound helped me to tell because I could see her kicking me at the same time

When did you all start feeling these flutters? People keep asking me if I've felt anything yet, but at sixteen weeks, I've got nothing to report.

@Mrs. Tricycle: Mid week 18 I started feeling bubbles. By week 19 I was feeling definitive nudges, and now at week 20, I can feel him rolling around sometimes! It's very cool
Do you know if you have an anterior/posterior placenta?

@Mrs. Tricycle: I started around 14.5 weeks. That's really early but I have a posterior placenta and I feel flutters and then don't pass any gas so I'm assuming it's baby.

My first little thumps from the baby felt like gas...except it didn't travel like a gas bubble and I didn't have to pass it a few seconds later as Hilsy said. It was also really low. I knew the instant it happened it was the baby. That was 15 weeks and 3 days. I didn't feel the baby again until the 16 week,0 day mark. My doc was shocked it happened so early but it was unmistable....I think I have a big baby in there plus I have a posterior placenta. I would then feel the baby maybe every other day. I thought it would get more constant over time, but only this week (I'm 19 weeks and 4 days) has it seemed to really pick up.

@highwire: hehe read my mind on this post!
like @sorrycharlie said, they've felt like muscle spasms for me... i'm still not 100% sure... but def know that it's not gas... so i'm assuming it's baby flutters! (16w4d)

@hilsy85 and @mamamoose ...Nobody's said anything about the location of my placenta. Didn't even think about that factor. Is this something you learned during your ultrasound?

I could tell based on where I was feeling it - my early movements were really low in my pelvis. My midwife kept telling me it was too early (at 14 weeks) but I know the difference between my gas bubbles and my babies! I'm sure it helps that my placentas are on the sides so the babies had to kick/move upwards!

@Mrs. Tricycle: Yup during part 1 of my anatomy scan, I saw her type the word "posterior" on the screen. So if you're only 16 weeks, you might not have had your a/s yet...you'll probably find out then!

@Mrs. Tricycle: in my 12 week scan I saw the tech write "anterior placenta" on the screen but she didn't say anything about it. I am 19 weeks today and haven't felt a thing
I am hoping it is because of that. I also always have some gas and tummy rumblings that don't pass even when I am not pregnant so everything just feels like gas to me. Le sigh.

@Mrs. Tricycle: I asked during my NT scan and the tech told me it as posterior.

@Mrs. Tricycle: I only felt three tiny little bumps at 16 weeks. After that, it was 18 weeks before I really felt anything that I was sure about.
@highwire: Do you actually have gas after you feel like this or do you feel fine? That's how I thought about it.

I felt kicks around 15 weeks. They never really felt like flutters to me!
