My mom was a neat freak and things weren't allowed to get messy or cluttered.
My house is messier and I can ignore cluttered toys and laundry until the end of the day.

Messier, but less cluttered. My mom is borderline hoarder, and every surface has knick-knacks on it. I can't handle that at ALL. But, I'm less likely to put away things like my yarn for whatever project I'm working on, so there's always a bit of mess here and there.

Compared to my childhood home (where my parents still live), my house is war-torn. My parents' house is impeccably clean, neat, and tidy. Every single thing has its own place.

@Rubies: this. My dad notices if a pen is out of place.
My house looks like a tornado hit. Oh wait -- tornado Chloe did.

Definitely cleaner. My mom always did the bare minimum while I like to deep clean.

Cleaner, I have a housekeeper and only one child, where my mom did it all and had 3 kids!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: SERIOUSLY!!! Same with my parents! Literally. If the pen that's supposed to be on the corkboard in the kitchen is on the living room table, my dad needs to know who put it there and why. Sheesh!

Definitely messier. My parents kept their house impeccable, even though they had 4 kids and both worked full time. I'm too lazy to keep up with it all.

messier.
we didn't have a lot of stuff growing up!

Waaaaaaaaay cleaner, more organized, etc etc. my family is very messy/dirty but not me! Ew! I look at old pictures and think WTF
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
cleaner! My parents are SO messy. And I'm not organized by any stretch of the imagination but I hate too much stuff/clutter/junk/mess, so it stays respectable.

Messier - I don't know how she kept it so clean and tidy w/ 3 kids AND working full time

@Rubies: He once left a post-it note at the printer in his office that said, "The next person who touches my pen will be fired."
It was directed at me because I always took the pen.
But I WATCHED him write the note AND TAKE THE PEN WITH HIM. And ten minutes later he was all, "WHO TOUCHED MY PEN?!"

Messier. My mom is definitely a neat freak and spends a lot of time cleaning. Although to be fair, I obviously only remember our house from the time I was a kid forward and my mom has gotten consistently more clean/tidy in that time. She's told me she wasn't a very good house keeper when she first got married or when we were little and it was something she had to learn. So, there is still hope for me

I'd say the clutter/messiness factor was about the same--neither our home now nor my parents' was very cluttered or disorganized. But my childhood home was for sure cleaner since my parents had a weekly housecleaning service, and no dog from when I was 2 until when I was in high school. We have 2 dogs that shed and keep it clean, but not as clean as professionals would. We need to find a service, even if it's just monthly, before baby comes because we will definitely have less time and energy for cleaning then!

Messier. Every time my mom comes over I tidy up. She would not be pleased. Lol

Cleaner but my mom had 4 kids under the age of 6 so can't really blame her , ha! These days she has the cleanest house of anyone I know

Messier but my mom was a total clean/neat freak. Our home is pretty clean and neat too.

Our house is tidier and less cluttered, but unfortunately less actual clean lol

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: my mother would like to know who raised me because she certainly didn't raise a slob.
I mean.. Did she not see my bedroom as a teenager?
I'm pretty damn organized but good god, I don't scrub my kitchen floor on my hands and knees like my mother does.

Omg. Messier. My house is a disaster and my mom's is always spotless because they're trying to sell it, so it has to be clean 24/7

messier, my mom always had a picked house! And I think 30 minutes after I clean it looks like a war zone again.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@Mrs. Jump Rope: mine is convinced I really belong to her sister...apparently sharing a room with her growing up shaped my mom into the neat freak she is. I used to be able to hide from my parents just by dipping into my room- clothes and toys everywhere. It was (is) bad.

Cleaner, but more cluttered at the moment (due to the small size of our apartment and too many things that can't just be tossed).

messier! my mom constantly cleaned, hates clutter and things not in their place. I can ignore it....very easily!

Same. Growing up, my mom was a neat freak...Always had the beds made, vacuumed almost daily, always had a place for everything and I liked having a clean home growing up. I'd like to think I keep my home the same way (with the exception of either DH or I being sick and not able to clean!)

Mine is definitely messier. I just don't care as much as my parents do. Sometimes when they visit we will wake up and they have been up for a couple go hours cleaning our already clean house. It's just their thing.
blogger / pomegranate / 3201 posts
Same as @loveisstrange - maybe not cleaner, but definitely less cluttered. I don't like lots of crap everywhere and I'm pretty good about getting rid of unnecessary stuff, but my mom is not. But I'm really lazy about really cleaning...
