Mine isn't. Almost no one guesses it correctly. I learned from DH to just smile and say "yes" when people ask for Mrs. Beck or Bo-eck.
What about yours?

Mine? Yes. It's very common and easy. DH's? No. It's Italian and no one pronounces it correctly.
grapefruit / 4582 posts
Nope. Maiden name usually was mispronounced but DHs last name always is! Even spelling it out on the phone for people they get it wrong.
pineapple / 12802 posts
Yea, I think it's easy to pronounce. However, if you don't say it clearly people get it wrong...

My maiden name was, but there were two ways to pronounce it so I did have to correct people a lot.
My married name is a real word that anyone who can read can pronounce! It's great.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
My maiden name was never ever ever said right the first time, usually because of it's Germanic origins. My current last name? Easy as pie.
pomegranate / 3980 posts
In my opinion if you can read you should be able to pronounce my last name but EVERYONE gets it wrong.... I think they are just lazy and don't try, it really sounds just like it is spelled.
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
It should be! It's comprised of two common words in the English language and they should be pronounced just the same as they would be if said alone. Yet somehow people screw it up alll the time!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@BabyBoecksMom: how do you pronounce it? I thought it was "beck".
Not really. It's not a common name, I had never heard it til I met DH but it's not weird as in obscure Russian name. But people do t know how to pronounce the "o" in the name so it comes out sounding very infavorable I hate my last name. My maiden name was so much better.
bananas / 9118 posts
My maiden name was shorter but French and would trip some people up to say/spell. My married name is longer but German and pretty straight forward to say- spelling can trip people up with f's and n's.
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
Some people pronounce Mc "Mac" instead of "Mick" but that's about the extent. I had a much harder time with my maiden name, even though I think it's super easy.
pineapple / 12793 posts
My maiden name is Spanish with a double "R" requiring a rolled sound that most Americans can't do, but my married name is a common male first name -easy peasy!
watermelon / 14206 posts
My married name is really really common, so I would look at people funny if they said it wrong. But, growing up I had a very uncommon last name that was impossible for people to pronounce or spell, so I love my new name.
pomegranate / 3032 posts
you would think.... my maiden name is a word used in every day language ... (def: something you do when a friend is upset, or the center _____ in a car, storage between the seat) and my married last name is only 4 letters pronounced like a national restaurant chain that serves grand slam breakfasts or men's name short for dennis... both of which people get wrong they try to make it much fancier than it is. i often get Mrs. Deny or Mrs. Den-I

No!
My maiden name (which some of the bees know because it's my email address) is easier than my husband's last name..Much easier because his name is a doozey. People get my maiden name right sometimes but rarely. It has a "ri" at the end which is pronounced "ray" not "rye" or "ree"!
pomegranate / 3604 posts
It's pretty easy but I just automatically spell it for them anyway.
DH's is also really easy.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
My maiden name people would mispronounce, even though if you read it, it's nearly impossible...and my last name now is short and easy but it is often spelled with an a instead of an e.
papaya / 10560 posts
It is now, but people always hear it wrong. If you see it, it is easy to say. My maiden name was always pronounced incorrectly.
pomegranate / 3516 posts
My maiden name was never mispronounced and DH's last name is very common so rarely mispronounced. The main issue is if we say it to someone and they're from a different part of the country, people interpret what we said differently. We had this issue once where we thought a hotel didn't make our reservation but it turns out, they just heard the name wrong on the phone.

My married name is pretty easy. It's just a four letter, one syllable word.
pomegranate / 3204 posts
I think it's easy, but people mis-pronounce it all the time. The DJ at our wedding mis-prounounced it when introducing us after I repeatedly told him how to say it, I was so upset.
coconut / 8861 posts
My maiden name is Polish and hard to pronounce for a lot of people. My married name is much easier since it appears to be more common. However, people like to pronounce it with a "T" instead of "D."
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
Nope. Everyone gets it wrong! I grew up with a hard to pronounce first name and easy last name. Now both of my names get mispronounced.
GOLD / papaya / 10166 posts
@Mrs. Pen: it's pronounced like "Bach" (like the composer)
@mrsaudi: LOL - the same thing happened at our wedding, and everyone there was yelling at him to get it right.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
It's 50/50 with my maiden and my married name. The extra vowel throws people for a loop sometimes.
apricot / 452 posts
Everyone got my maiden name wrong. It is Italian and has a lot of vowels. I was always correcting people. My married last name is so much easier! It is a pretty common word but not really a common last name. Everyone gets it right and can spell it.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
Yes, very easy! People often add an "s" to the end, though, and I am not sure why they do that!
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
@sera_87: I do this too, out of habit from having to spell out my maiden name. When someone asks me my name I immediately say "McKnight, M-C-K-N-I-G-H-T, Sarah, with an H"
(Hey, no one steal my identity okay?)
apricot / 483 posts
no, neither my maiden name or my married name is easy to pronounce - there is actually a "gh" in both, and both are pronounced differently, and everyone always guesses wrong - i've found that i answer to most things now, as long as they're close ha
persimmon / 1453 posts
It's pretty easy, but only because DH's Czech name was Americanized when his family immigrated. Otherwise we would have been saddled with something crazy, like Juscascz!
pear / 1554 posts
My married name is super easy. My maiden name was always mispronounced.
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
Apparently not... It's Simons but 9 out of 10 people say Simmons.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
12 lettered polish name..a d not a common one. Nope. It's hard to say + my korean first name?
... :T
pomegranate / 3331 posts
my first AND last names are super easy to pronounce, and yet people constantly mispronounce my first name, which is amusing to me because it's so easy. and it's a feminine name that some people somehow think is a boy's name. last name is like @rachiecakes: so people sometimes think it's my first name and i'm a boy (over email, not in person!) so basically, i'm a boy, haha
pear / 1698 posts
It's Long which is super easy but I always spell it out for people since people mistake it for Wong or Juan, etc. It's kind of annoying because it's such an easy common name!
My maiden name was trickier (Berard) because it was similar to the words beard and Bernard so people would default to those instead of actually pronouncing my name. I once added all the women on Facebook who had my same first and maiden name (There were 16!) and they all complained about the same thing.
