So sick of house hunting. It will be three years in September.
We offered 20% over asking. There were 16 bidders we came in second. Whooptyfriggindo.

Holy crap. That sucks. We just live in a tiny apartment underneath the flight path for the airport. I cannot wait to start house hunting....3 years from now.

@oliviaoblivia: awww, i'm sorry! that is really disappointing. i hope the next one is it for you guys!

I'm sorry. That sucks. We only looked for about six months but we spent most of our spare time on the transaction. We had three contracts bust before we managed to close, and we lost a few bidding wars in between. It's a brutal buyer's market right now. Hang in there.

Ugh...the bidding wars in Toronto are out of control. Sorry to hear that you didn't get the house

Wow! That is nuts. We started looking in April and went into contract Dec 31. It was depressing especially seeing how crappy some houses were that looked good online.

@oliviaoblivia: That sucks big time! I think we are in the same housing market and it is crazy out there, I'm not sure how I will handle the bidding wars

I'm so sorry! We lost one and it hurt. Just take heart that you aren't locking in a losing investment as some of the top bidders may be.... ie willing to pay too much and therefore setting themselves up for a guaranteed loss down the road. Most annoying thing to hear but has always been true for me: it will work out in the end and you'll be glad these didnt happen. Hope the right one comes along soon !
Edited to add the one we lost we found out it was by 2k. They pretty much used us to bid the other person up and told them what they had to get. Horrible.

Woooooah girlfriend! I'm so sorry!!
we are having a lot of trouble too...I've been living out of a suitcase in 4 different places since February. Our dogs are with my parents, our belongings are in storage...it sucks...I'm ready to have a house...

@oliviaoblivia: I hate house hunting disappointment! We started looking for a 2 bedroom condo in January, offered on 7 condos also (in a span of 6 months)..... Were the highest bidder 3 times, ALL of which fell through for various reasons until we finally found a For Sale By Owner condo, offered asking price if they wouldn't show it to anyone else, closed, and moved in just 1 week before we had our baby.
It was SO stressful. We aren't even that picky--- we just wanted it to not suck, have parking, and have 2 bedrooms. But housing in our area is expemsive andm stressful, too.
Stick, wth it--- you'll find one that works out eventually!

Oh man I hope you find the perfect house soon and have a smooth transaction! Buying a house is so stressful, even without bidding wars.

We're not in the house hunting game yet, but that must be so frustrating! I'm sorry

I'm so sorry! I definitely feel your pain. Last year I was looking throughout my pregnancy and we bid and lost out on 8 homes, got accepted offers on 2 homes but then issues in inspection came out that couldn't be resolved, and finally got our home 2 weeks before I went into labor. The whole process sucks!

I'm sorry! That stinks. And is crazy - the market is nuts right now! We are going to try to sell our place and find a bigger house soon! Nervous about the whole thing!

Ugh, that blows. Hopefully your luck/the market turns in your favor soon!

oh man that sucks! The market is going crazy in my area too! I hope the next one is THE one!

@oliviaoblivia: Ughhh awful We had a bidding war for our house years ago (Peel).. I can't believe it is still ridiculous. It is discouraging ... in the end it will be worth it. Don't give up and don't settle.

I heard (at least in my area) a lot of first time buyers are losing bids to investors paying cash, so I wonder if that was the case for you. Sorry, this sucks.

@Beebug: J works is sauga I'd never see him with that commute.
Mimico was my compromise. I had convinced myself that the bidding wars didn't extend into the burbs. Stupid.

Oh that stinks! No experience yet here. We are just starting to look for our first home. Hope you get a great one and soon!!

@googly-eyes: we are paying cash. our budget could buy two of my parents house but no dice in this market. Sucks. Also I'm ridiculously picky.

@oliviaoblivia: im so sorry friend. T.O is such a hard place to house shop!!! :T

@oliviaoblivia: 407? lol. I'm trying.
I know they happen "way" out here too, housing is just insane, prices just keep going up and up. Hugs though, and if you ever want to share MLS stuff I want to see, haha I love that stuff!
DH commutes over to West end TO, that drive is a lot!

@oliviaoblivia: We live just west of Mimico and seriously, we LOOOOVE this neighbourhood. It's still a bit gritty but there are so many wonderful young families! Where were you looking?
persimmon / 1379 posts
@oliviaoblivia: Ahhh we weren't picky--we wanted something that we could make our own over many years...so that's what we got! A work-in-progress!
There are so many places going up on the market now though--hope you can find something perfect for you guys soon. Those offer date houses are terrible. I hate the process.
pineapple / 12793 posts
@woodentulip: I'm an architect. I want a gut job. But apparently so do at least 16 other people.

@oliviaoblivia: We are just south of Lakeshore on the numbered streets. Are you folks looking for a totally 'done' house?
I feel for you--we were looking for..erm...6 months? And I was just d.o.n.e. with it! My hubs also works in 'sauga and we were living in a friend's condo in Scarborough that they don't use. It was brutal. Maybe that's why life here seemed so much better
But like I said...we're not so picky...so we would have found something somewhere!
