...for the end of May. I will be two days short of eight weeks. I'm going to a OB/GYN that came highly recommended by a friend, but I've never met her before. If everything looks OK after the first apt, I think I might tell my best friend I am pregnant - it's killing me not to tell anyone!!
What was your first doctor's appointment like? Is there anything I should know or be prepared for?

My first apt was more like an orientation. They had a midwife talk to us and tell us what to expect with pregnancy, do's and don'ts, and all about the hospital we deliver at. They told us about classes, registering at the hospital, etc. And we got a blood test.

My first appointment was much like @artbee's. Do's and Don'ts and medical history for me and my husband. But I was only 5 weeks at that point. At 8 weeks I got my first ultrasound so hopefully you'll get an ultrasound (But I know some doctor's don't do them until 12 weeks).

I had an internal ultrasound, MD went over pregnancy expectations, ideal weight gain based on my current size, and blood work. Very basic.

My first OB appointment was like that too. Just a quick consult with the OB, some paperwork, prescription for prenatal vitamins and a blood draw. The next one will be the ultrasound appointment I think? So exciting!

My first appointment was just shy of 8 weeks. Nurse took my weight, blood pressure, date of last period. We sat down with the OB to go over due dates, vitamins, questions, etc.
Then we did an ultrasound. Which was amazing! He took a measurement to make sure baby was right size for its age. And we saw the heartbeat flickering away.
We did a pre-conception appointment 2 months prior, and had done a ton of blood work/pap smear/genetic testing/vaccines/etc. The phlebotomist on their staff was out the day of our first OB appointment, but since I had just done all that blood work recently, he said we could just hold off for now (and skip the pap smear entirely), and do it all at my next appointment (which is this Thursday)!

@Meeshling: congratulations! I have my first doctors appointment May 23rd for our second & I will be 10 weeks. It is driving me crazy not to tell, but we are waiting until the 2nd trimester.
At the first appointment for me last time it was a lot of paperwork, pap & normal exam, blood work, Q & A & then the best part was the vaginal ultrasound & hearing the heartbeat.

Congrats! For me my first appointment was meeting with the nurse to go over the basics and to set up my first OB just after 9 weeks. 9 weeks they measured me & did a U/A to make sure that looked good. In most cases they will do a pap at my office, but I just had one the month before getting pregnant so she didn't do one. I did have an U/S due to me feeling larger than 9 weeks, but that ended up being a cyst.

I have an appointment at the end of May too! the 29th..i'll be 8 weeks and 2 days at my appt.

I had some spotting at the end of my fifth week, so early in the 6th week was my first appointment. I did paperwork, height, weight, and an exam. I had my first U/S in the seventh week.

You'll probably have a vaginal ultrasound. I went in at 6 weeks 5 days and had one done. Got to see the baby, yolk sac, heart beat and even got to hear the heartbeat!

I had a bunch of bloodwork and my vitals taken, and other than that just talked to the midwife about medical history. Didn't even have to take my pants off!

This post has been super helpful, I have my first appt in 3 weeks (I'll be exactly 7 weeks then) and I've been super curious about what to expect. Doc plans to do an ultrasound and I hope that it happens, planning to tell our moms after that, super excited about it.

my first appointment was at 5 weeks and i had to sign a bunch of paperwork, mark my medical history, had vitals taken, and had an ultrasound.
