"It's our personal choice, you know, and if you're really concerned about your kid, then get them vaccinated and it shouldn't be a problem."
Not how it works lady. Did you not read about herd immunity in all your many books?

@daniellemybelle: Exactly!! And screw the scientific evidence, you know, because there is one pediatric group that hasn't vaccinated and doesn't have any cases of autism.

Oh my gosh. I had to Google who she was an why she was famous. I didn't realize that Laguna Beach had a medical school and/or research facility!

Ugh. High profile people without a clue are really scary. Measles is back in NYC and autism is as prevalent as ever. Hmmmm. There goes the health of Laguna beach

@lawbee11: and I'm sure that pediatric group can pick and choose who it takes on as patients... SMH

@Mrs.Panda: @MrsMccarthy: She actually lives in Chicago now...her husband is the QB for the Bears. She's still clueless, though.

the scary thing is… as rich and famous as she is, she HAS to have people in her life who have explained to her that she is being a moron. So it isn't just ignorance. It is like… willfully putting your hands over your ears and refusing to listen to reason.
coconut / 8861 posts
@lawbee11: yep, her kids will be infecting the rich kids of Chicago.

While I personally vaccinate, I don't think it's my place to judge those who do not. If not vaccinating is important to that family it is absolutely with in their rights to refuse it.

@Beyond2: the thing I take issue with is spreading false info, or suggesting it, since she didn't really say what the link was or where she read about it besides the one group, an she couldn't remember the name.
eggplant / 11824 posts
I will definitely judge her because she's spreading dangerous misinformation on serious public health issues through her position as a celebrity/public figure. I also judge her because she's also a completely talentless hack.

@yoursilverlining: agreed. I hate that people are so afraid of autism that they'll risk the lives of their children. It's stupid and offensive to all the children with autism and their families.
pear / 1517 posts
@googly-eyes: I guess I just have faith that someone would research their personal decisions on vaccination well and not just skip them based on "famous so and so" said so. That may be too strong of an assumption though...

I agree with @Beyond2: that I will not judge others decisions on hot topic issues.
However, I also agree with others when they say they should not spread misinformation to the public. Unfortunately this is the case with many public figures about highly sensitive issues such as guns, religion, etc. They shouldn't be judged on their own personal choices, except on their yappy mouths commenting on something they don't fully know about.

Cool Kristin, what books about how terrible and awful autism is did you read?
grapefruit / 4712 posts
I wish celebs (or anyone really) would do their research before spewing misinformation.
I try very hard not to judge other parents decisions for their children. I am a big advocate to doing research on everything important to yourself and your children and make the decision that makes the most sense to you.

I'd rather have a kid with Autism than with polio.
I agree with not judging parents for their parenting decisions. But, I also think that they need to base their reasons on real facts, not on the hype that has already pretty much been debunked.
It's like saying I'm going to breastfeed because formula has glue in it. It's just not true and people would think I was a lunatic for spreading that type of "information."

@MamaMoose: I do remember reading that now that you mention it. Hope y'all don't run into them at the park!
@spaniellove: LOL...seriously.
honeydew / 7295 posts
@MamaMoose: yuck I'm sorry to hear that.
@Dandelion: @ladybee: @yoursilverlining: exactly! People just want a scapegoat and its so sad to all of the beautiful autistic souls out there.

@MrsH: if she is onto something (and who knows; maybe she is) then she needs to BACK it up if she is going to speak so publicly about it.
What she needs to realize is that she is a role model to many, many people (simply because she is famous) and what she is saying is a HUGE deal. So, it is irresponsible to make such a statement and just say, "well, I read about it some place, shoot, donno where."
She irritates me. I don't care about her decision. I mean, whatever....but at least don't speak about it publicly and sound stupid. Too many teen Laguna Beach momma fans are reading the magazine and going, "YEAH!"

oh i guess i missed the part where she became a doctor. honestly, would you expect anything else from this idiot?
pomelo / 5257 posts
I love how she's supposedly read sooooo many books and yet doesn't name any. Guess what, Kristin? Vogue and Cosmo are not books. This is not a "to each their own" issue. What you do affects others. Herd immunity is real and it's important.
honeydew / 7504 posts
Come on, guys. Maybe Laguna Beach high school isn't sui good at teaching science. You can't blame her.
In all seriousness, this is just irresponsible and dangerous. I saw an interview where she said she never intended to become a spokesperson for the anti-vax position. Yeah, but you did. So now you have a responsibility to back up your decision with actual scientific facts. Oh but wait...those don't exist.
