From my experience dealing first-hand with my son's liver disease, low albumin is really non-specific for liver disease. Usually when albumin was low and everything else was fine they tried increasing calories first because your body makes less when you are in calorie deficit. I would absolutely not worry about my liver if my LFTs were fine but my albumin was low.

Albumin is the largest most plentiful protein in the blood. It is responsible for maintaining proper pressure and salinity of the blood and blood vessels. When L's albumin was low, he would get edema particularly in his legs. It is made by the liver, which is why it is part of standard liver function tests, however, most problems with liver function begins with the loss of liver cells (this is indicated by increased AST and LST). Enough loss of liver cells leads to compromised liver function (which will increase INR, PTT (measures of how quickly blood clots), decreased fibrinogen and albumin, increased bilirubin (both direct and indirect, need the liver to function to break down and clear these from the blood). So usually AST and LST increase, then INR, PTT and bili increased while fibrinogen and albumin decrease while AST and LST keep rising. When you are in full blown liver failure, AST and LST come down while the other numbers continue to get worse.

With that said, L's doctors always assumed low albumin in the absence of other irregularities meant he needed more calories, because he just wasn't making enough protein. This was for a kid in medical crisis though so I don't know how applicable the advice is. But I do know enough that this wouldn't be concerning to be for immediate liver disease and I would wait and speak to the doctor at my next appointment.

@Paddington10: Oh gosh I don't remember anymore exactly what they were. But, I know when I talked to the doctor she explained how the value that was lower wasn't very worrisome and overall things looked fine. The itching was rough, though. She recommended sarna lotion several times a day, and it did provide some relief.
