I always thought I would absolutely love my kid's names, but DH and I are so off on names we like. I'm realizing just liking the name will have to do. The other day DH said he liked Ethan. I can live with Ethan.
Did you love your kid's names or just like them/ settle for them?

We were team green. I LOVED our girl name from really early, but never felt totally in live with our boy name. I was sure we'd have a boy and was sort of stressed about it! Turns out she's a girl and suits the name we picked perfectly, but I totally felt the same as you about the boy name- I liked it, a lot, but it wasn't love.

I loved our girl name, but I think DH settled a little. He woudl never agree to it and then finally he said "there's not a name I like better than it so we can use it." He does think that it fits her to a tee now!

Sometimes it takes a while to fall in love and get used to a name. DH and I had a TON of trouble agreeing on a boy name, which is of course what we're going to have, lol. We read baby names books, websites, I tossed out a million ideas. We had a couple names we both liked, and DH really had to sit and think about them for a long time. After a while the name we picked became more familiar and seemed right. Ultimately, I had other names that I originally liked more, but the name we picked we picked together and it feels like him.

I settled a little since DH and I had a hard time agreeing on names. But obviously I love it now! And I think it helped make her more real since we started callig her by her name so early on in pregnancy.. All our friends and family referred to her by name too in utero!

DH and I had the same issue with a boys name. There were a lot that we could both 'live' with. When we heard LO's name we knew it was perfect and couldn't imagine naming him anything else!
Dont' decide until you're in love!

I love DSs name. Although it was the only one we agreed on. Ethan was actually on my list but DH didn't like it. If he had, I probably would have chosen it over what we ended up with!
I can say though that I've come to love his name more and more since he was born and it became part of him. Of that makes sense.

DH and I really struggled to find names. Every named I loved, he hated and vice versa. There was a tiny middle ground - one name - that we both felt meh about. I was like you, I thought we have to settle on a name we didn't love. Then, one day, Rainbowsprinkles (on here) suggested a name on a "unisex names" thread and I adored it. DH also loved it and finally we had our choice pinned down!

I love our daughter's name now but up until she was born I had this little voice in my head saying, "Are you REALLY sure?". I was worried I would always feel that way but now that she is here it completely suits her.
What helped me be confident in moments of questioning was that my DH was so totally in love with the name. I knew it was his absolute favorite and that even if I needed time for it to grow on me, I would at least be able to look at him and how happy he was that we chose it.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I loved out girl name. But DH had s boy name that he really loved that I hated at first, but he kept using it and it grew on me. At this point, if we ever have a boy (our LO is a girl), we will use DHs fave name.

Settled. I was told a kid will grow in to their name just like we have friends with names, it is just "their name." Not like "oops we named them the wrong name." That turned out to be true!

I think there is a difference between "settling" and "compromising". Is DD's name the name I would have picked if it was totally up to me and I didn't have to consider my husband's opinion? Probably not. But I still love her name and think it suits her beautifully.

DH and I were on totally opposite spectrums about names. We argued until 1 day we were watching a movie (with a character that had the name) and it just clicked.

When we first came up with LOs name (I was looking at a portrait of her namesake in New Orleans) I said, "what about this?" It fit all of our requirements and he loved it. But then I kept going back and forth on it because I was worried about reactions or her growing up to hate her name. We had some other names on the list we both liked but towards the end of my pregnancy I felt 100% about her name. I love it

Pretty much the same story as @Foodnerd81. We were Team Green and I LOVED the girl name we chose, but was just lukewarm on the boy name and figured I'd just go with it. We ended up having a girl and I LOVE her name!

We love our son's name, but when we were thinking of girl names, I had to settle because Hubs was just too darn picky! I like it well enough, but def don't LOVE it like other girl names. Oh well.

we LOVED our girls name. i find it harder with boys names though. i don't think there is a boys name that DH and i both love, so we may need to just "like" it if we ever do have a boy.

Hubby loves the name, I just settled with it because we couldn't agree on anything else. His name is starting to grow on me though (he's almost 3 weeks now). Ha!

We had a really hard time with our third daughter. I LOVED the names for my older two, but just couldn't find one that we both were loving, but found one that we both liked. And to be honest it has grown on me and now I love it.

I LOVED her name, until after she was born... I didn't think it 'fit' her. I think my problem was that I had a mental image of what she'd look like when I chose that name, and then she ended up looking nothing like what I imagined, so that name didn't feel right. 6.5 months later, and I'm back to loving it though

It took me a while to go from liking a name to loving a name.
Names were so hard for me. It felt like such a huge responsibility. If you've read "Freakanomics" you really understand that people make assumptions based on the name alone. I way over analyzed names and had trouble settling on "the perfect name".
I LOVE LO's name now, but when DH first suggested it, I didn't love it. I liked it. Then I really liked it. Then I loved it.
But that is also my personality. I'm cautious and I think a lot and analyze a lot before making big decisions.
