Do you have a male or female OB?
I was just looking at the OB's Bio's for my medical centers and i completly ignored the male dr's.
No offence to them i am sure they are good at what they do, but cant tell me, from personal experiance, what morning sickness feels like or what carrying a baby will be like?
Did having a male/ female OB make a difference to you?

Female and yes I ignore male OBs. Sorry but I don't need a male besides my husband inspecting me internally.

Female. My OB has never had a baby, but I still feel more comfortable with female doctors than male.

Female. It would creep me out to have a male down there. And I agree... I really don't want your opinion on morning sickness and braxton hicks if you don't have a uterus!

I thought that I wanted a female doctor but when I started doing research to find a new doctor I kept finding amazing reviews for a particular male ob/gyn. I went ahead and scheduled an appointment with him for my annual and he was awesome and has been wonderful regarding our fertility testing. While it would have been nice to have a female, I am more than happy that I decided to go to him.

I have a male OB now and the one previous was a male as well. I used to be put off by the same thing and would only see female obgyns.... then I had to see my last one and he was amazing. I was with him for the last few years until I had to transfer to my current one now (who is also great) because of the hospital we wanted to deliver at.

I basically went to a different ob each time since it was a big practice and I didn't get to choose who delivered me. I wanted to meet as many of them as possible so I went to both men and women. My most favorite and least favorite OBs were women. The 2 male OBs were somewhere in the middle. If I could have my overall choice I'd prefer having a female OB but a couple of the women OBs were just really condescending and unhelpful, so I'd prefer the male OBs over them.

Female, however there are 2 male doctor's in the practice that could potentially deliver if my doctor is on vacation or something like that. I would prefer my doctor just beacuse she has known me from before TTC and knows my history.

@MrsCastro: I went by a referral. I asked my general practitioner for a recommendation, and she gave me the contact info for her OB. He's a guy, and I really like him and the entire office. Everyone is wonderful there. I am confident with either a male or female. As long as they come recommended, then I feel like I will be in good hands.

I have both. Our practice has men and women and honestly, I have liked the men better than the women I have met so far. I don't normally click with women right away so perhaps that is it. I never thought I would say this but I definitely prefer one of the male OB's in my practice to one of the female ones when it comes time for labor.
As for my annual exams? I think I might stick with a woman. I'll be too miserable to care who's peering down there when I'm in labor but if I'm just getting checked out, a woman might make me feel more comfortable. Talk about being an oxymoron.

My current gynecologist is female, but before I moved I had a male gynecologist. I don't have a preference.

I've had both, although my current OB is a male. Personally, I prefer women, though; once I get done having babies, I'll stop seeing the OB completely and just see my (female) family practioner for my annual exam.

My OB is male too and he's the BEST. As far as annual exams, I just go with whoever is available in the practice. For my OB, I specifically asked for him.

I always choose female doctors for my personal comfort, but I'm curious about the way you phrased your question. If your female OB were a doctor who has never personally given birth, would you not want her to be your doctor either? I'm sure there are plenty of female OBs who are not biological mothers!

yes i have hated all the male doctors i had before i finally went to a female ob. i never want a male doctor!

@pawprints; i guess i didnt think about that point. I guess it went more along the lines of you dont have my lady parts how can you sympathize with what i am talking about...i.e. when a man gets hits between the legs i can imagine its painful but is it as painful as having menstral craps or more...LOL sorry about the example....

I see a female perinatologist. There are two males plus her in the practice, and whoever is on call will actually deliver my baby. I don't mind if a man delivers the baby but I am glad I have been seeing a female this whole time!

I've had both but now I have a female dr. I feel more comfortable talking to a female dr about TTC.

I've had both and of the ones I have seen, then men have been way more sympathetic and willing to listen to any concerns that I might have. My ob was male and I absolutely loved him. He was genuinely nice and always took as much time as I needed at my appointments. Of course he was on vacation when I delivered but the other male ob i had during delivery was just as awesome.

My OBGYN is male & I absolutely LOVE him! I had a female OB in college & I liked her a lot but not nearly as much as I love my current doctor! Our practice recently added two women but I will only go to my doc!
