I'm 36 1/2 weeks now and just had an ultrasound this morning. They've told me before that LO has a big head, but today they kept talking about my "big baby" during the ultrasound and estimated her weight now at about 7lbs, which has me a bit nervous since I still have a few weeks to go.
I've heard from friends that their weight estimates were way off. What was your experience with ultrasound weight estimates?

Pretty accurate. OB said if she was born at 40 weeks she'd be around 8 pounds!
LO was 8lbs 1.1 ounces!

most people i know their estimates were way off (overestimated). my friend was induced early because they told her baby was too big, and it was only 6 lbs and change!
but charlie was actually accurate. they told me he was measuring 8 lbs at my last appt before i had him, and he was 8 lbs 6 oz. i believed that he was going to be smaller based on my friends' experiences, but they were right!

My 36w ultrasound estimated LO at 7lb which would have put her around 9-10lbs at birth. She arrived at 8lb 0.7 oz so I wouldn't worry too much.
At my 19w ultrasound this time they are estimating baby weighs about 13oz which is more consistent with growth of at 21w; however I measured right on track (20w) at my ob appt Monday.

I have no personal experience with this yet (though they're saying she's small, and I'm hoping it's true!). However, I have friends that have had measurements go both ways. Both were told their babies would be around 7 lbs, one was a little over 10, the other was a little over 5.

Mine was way off. I had US's every week for placental insufficiency and cord problems. Most estimated around 4 lbs (she was 6) and then one US tech had her at 8. All of that is to say that they are just estimates!

My last US overestimated babe's weight. Don't be nervous, and don't let anyone start mentally preparing you for a CS or whatever at this point (based on these estimates)! You may not have as much time left as you think, anyway!

The u/s tech said DS would be 7 pounds 6 ounces during my 35th week...he was 8 pounds 7 ounces.
DD was 5 pounds 2 ounces at 33 weeks so hopefully she doesn't gain more than 2 pounds!

I was hoping it would be way off but it wasn't. They told me 8.5 lbs a little over a week before delivery and he was 8lbs11oz. But that means nothing! Go check out @coastinganon who naturally birthed two (gorgeous) 10+ pounders

My doctor told me my baby was big and would be around 8 pounds. He came out 2 weeks early at 6 pounds 11 oz...I'm not sure if those 2 weeks would've made a huge difference

I didn't have an ultrasound after the anatomy scan but my midwife estimated by feel and was pretty close. At my 39 week appointment, she estimated 10lbs and DS was born weighing 9lbs 5 oz.

The last time I did an ultrasound to check weight was at 29 weeks (and I think they tend to be more accurate earlier in pregnancy), but at that time baby was estimated to be 3lbs with a big head. The estimate after that point is .5lb per week weight gain, right? And baby came out at 8lbs 1oz at 40wks 1day, so pretty much right on target there. His head ended up being normal/on the small side though (not that it made pushing him out easier. Sigh.)

At my last appt, the NP guesstimated LO would weigh about 7 pounds, she was born 6lbs, 14 oz.

Dr estimated 7.5 lbs and DD was 7lbs 9 oz! Of course, isn't 7.5-8lbs a pretty average baby size?

At all of my 3rd trimester ultrasounds they estimated my baby's weight to be somewhat above average. She was born at full term -- 6 lb 8 oz -- the 18th percentile for weight. So they definitely overestimated her weight.

My lo measured big so they did an ultrasound. They said it can be off by a pound either way. They said lo would be big, but not so big I need a c section. They were right, she was 8 lbs 13 oz.

Not accurate- they were estimating over 9lbs for my due date... he was born at 39w 1d at 6lb 11oz. He is very long, so that was what caused the overestimate.
I'm 5 feet tall, the estimate was freaking me out!

At 38 weeks I was told my baby weighed 7lbs 8oz... she was born 40 weeks +5 and she weight 6lbs 9oz. So even though she was nearly a week overdue she still weighed 1lb less than their estimate. i think they were thrown off by her length, because she was born at 20 inches and I'm guessing thats kinda long for her weight.

Pretty accurate! My OB guessed mid 7lbs and bb M was 7lbs 10 oz! And I was 2 days early. She only felt the baby in my bumP so I'm shocked how close she was!!

They never estimated mine. But my mom's were WAY off! both my brother and sister were estimated to be 8+ lbs, and both were only 6 lbs. She was pretty mad at the dr because he almost coerced her into an induction because "he was so big" and he was her smallest baby (of 6!)

My midwife estimated between 9lbs and 10lbs and Charlotte was 10lbs8oz, 22in long with a 14+ in head. THAT'S a big baby. lol

It was pretty accurate...When I was 35 weeks, they estimated that baby was about 5.5lbs...And with about 0.5lbs per week, I gave birth to a 7lbs, 6oz. baby.

I had very in dept ultrasounds bc I was higher risk. But the day before Liv was born they estimated 7lb 11oz and she was born at 7lb 10oz. So they were spot on!

The dr overestimated for DS. He said(for months) he was measuring big and would be at least 8. By my last appointment at (40 weeks) he said closer to 8 1/2-9lbs. He was only 7lbs 12oz. He's a little peanut. Even the dr was surprised when he saw him. He said he wasn't big enough and needed to go back in lol no thank you! also, my dr only guessed weight by measuring me, not by using an ultrasound

They told me at a 38 week ultrasound that DD was 7lbs 6oz. When she was born 3 weeks later, she was only 7lbs 0.4oz. The estimates are just that- estimates. There is room for error either way and I wouldn't worry too much.

At my 37 week u/s I was told 7 lbs 1 oz or so...she was born via scheduled c section at 5 lbs 8 oz -- so pretty far off!!

2 days before he was born they check and estimated him around 7 pounds 12 ounces I think.... Born at 8 pounds 6 ounces.

Ummmm my doctor said she was "a medium sized baby" when he did the cervical checks. When I asked him what that meant, he said "not too big, not small". She ended up being 7 lbs even

At 37 weeks he was estimated at 8.6. He was born at 39 weeks via induction at 9.2. My doctor induced early because of his estimated size

At 33 weeks my doc said she'd be 9.5-10.5 lbs. She was born on her due date at 10 lbs. 1 oz. Pretty spot on.

Completely inaccurate! His growth scan projected him to be 9.5 - 10 lbs. I was scheduled to have an additional growth scan at 39 weeks because he was supposed to be so big and there was a slight possibility of induction. I went into labor the morning of my appt, so I never made it. Even when the doctor was examining my stomach right before birth, she guessed 9 pounds. He was 7.3 pounds (at 38w6d). I was delighted! That made things much easier, lol!
