This would annoy me, too, but I don't think its cause for concern. Sounds like he's busy/in demand, and is a bit of a frazzled guy whose approach isn't touchy feely. I liked having an OB who knew all about me, but others thought she was way too casual and up in patients' business!

One way to look at it is that if you're having a healthy, normal, "boring" (from a medical perspective) pregnancy, there's not a lot he NEEDs to remember about you. Doesnt feel great on a personal level, I know - but a different spin to perhaps make you feel better.

ETA: you could always try to make more small talk/share personal details with him, but it sounds like maybe he's just not a people person?

I'm on my third pregnancy and bc we keep moving its my third OB office. I'm always surprised who remembers me and who doesn't but they see so many people it doesn't bother me when they don't. Even when some clearly remember me, I think sometimes they combine me with someone else bc not everything they say is my story.

Some are good about looking at the charts but not all, I'm just used to repeating the basics of my story each time, in case they haven't looked through or something wasn't documented. I don't think OBs really note sex of the baby too much. We've found out and usually someone towards the end will comment they'll make a note bc no ones written it down yet but not usually till it's almost the end.

Arent they supposed to review your chart before they come in? This would bother me. I don't expect my ob to be my BFF but they should at least remember (or review) my most basic details before our visit.

My son's orthopedic surgeon is like that. I had to tell her about his condition. She thought she made a new discovery and I had to tell her that we had been to the office for this for years. Thankfully, his issue is resolving and we won't have to see her too much longer.

That's weird. All of my doctors, the girls doctors, nurses, they all remember us...

I don't think it's that weird that he doesn't *remember* you, but it is concerning that he is apparently not even looking at your chart! Or at least that the nursing staff is not noting things in your chart. What if you were high risk and should be having regular checks for something important?

This might be cause for me to switch doctors, honestly.

That would be off putting to me. I see a OB practice (4 OBs plus NP) and during pregnancy you have to rotate and see all of them. Since they can't guarantee who will be on call when you're in labor. But everyone remembers me! I was at my OB for a yearly a month ago and hadn't seen her since I delivered my second. 17 months ago. She remembered me and knew to ask about both my girls.

I mean, I wouldn't switch practices because of it. But I personally prefer a more personal level of service.

It would bother me a little. My OB is great. She remembers what she told me in previous visits, details about my personal life, my infertility history, etc. Her nurse remembers me too.

There was a midwife in my group like that, the other two were fine but this one was terrible. Of course she ended up delivering me. I called about 48 hours after I gave birth with a question and she didn't remember me then either and there were enough out of the ordinary things at the birth that you would think she'd remember two days later. Clearly I'm switching to someone else for next time and I honestly wish I had for that baby.

My OB remembers me, but it's like no one else at the practice ever bothers to read my chart. It makes me crazy when they mention things that are completely wrong. Or, like they tell me I'll have my GD test at my next appointment. No, I won't. Because I've already got it .

There's a lot of little things at my practice that bug me, and I'm never sure if it adds up to enough to switch.

I am at a new practice and haven't seen the same practitioner twice yet. I have seen the phlebotomist every single appointment (4 times in 3 months) and she remembers me so I think that says something about when a doctor does not because he obviously spends more time with you.

I have Kaiser (big HMO) and the nurses or assistants that bring you back always ask "have you met so and so before?" and they must tell the doctor yes or no so they know how to greet the patient. The usually do a good job of pretending to remember you.

When we had our first well baby with LO2 the pediatrian introduced herself to me and DH. We had been in her office two weeks before (and many many times before that) for LO1. No recognition at all. We described LO1 and her ailments and she couldn't even pretend to remember us. It only slightly annoyed me. I was more relieved that despite all of LOs visits for various daycare colds/ear aches/pneumonias we don't even register as frequent patients.

That seems unusual. At least fake it and take good notes to review before waking in the door. I feel like every staff member, my OB and her partner remember us every time we go in. It would be enough to consider OB shopping.

That would not be okay with me. They need to review your chart, at a minimum.

I don't think it's abnormal to not remember, but it's not normal or acceptable that he doesn't fake it better! They should review your chart before and pretend! I always assume my docs don't remember me, (unless I see them multiple times in a row) and that they're just good actors!

That would piss me off a lot. How are you going to take good care of me if you don't even care to know who I am?! I know not everyone would, but I would consider switching.

This would really bother me

I go to a practice where you're expected to see several doctors so you know them all (they take turns delivering). This is my second pregnancy with this practice. The last time I went in, I saw the doctor who delivered my last kid. He was reading my chart off to me and something didn't seem right. I suddenly realized he was looking at my chart from my 2 year old (who ironically was there with me). I told him and we got on track but it was weird. He clearly also did not remember delivering DS. However I wasn't too bothered because he did a great job delivering DS and that matters more to me. One of the other doctors there does a much better job remembering, or at least looking through my file before he walks in the room. Maybe it is just a personality thing.
