DH and I finally agreed on a middle name for DS, making him Jack Cassidy O’veryirishlastname. I love Jack Cassidy and the slightly western feel. I told my mom and she said “Jack Cassidy, like the actor?” Boo.
Have you heard of Jack Cassidy? Would you cross it off your list?

I like it! I have never heard of the actor. Do not let others change your mind. We don’t share names for that very reason, until we introduce our babes and they have no chance to comment. And we lock unique names so I know there are comments happening

I have heard of Jack Cassidy and I would think of him if I heard your LOs full name - but I wouldn't think it's bad. Just a quick mental note "oh like the actor." Also, once your LO is born most people don't use or think about someone else's middle name, in my experience.

I totally get it. I have a Jack and a Ryan. Ryan was born 3 days before the new Amazon show came out and every Amazon box had their names on it. I was like. "That's right. That's why those names go together so well"
My view is:
- I love Jack
- You only use the middle name when he's in trouble
- most people haven't heard of Jack Cassidy
- if people have and mention it you can say you hadn't heard if him until you picked out the name

@Pollywog: DH’s name is Ryan and he wanted to name him Jack Ryan 🤦♀️ He hasn’t heard of the show or books because he really doesn’t pay attention to current stuff. So Jack Cassidy would be a concession!
I think we’ll probably go with Jack Cassidy after hearing that most people of childbearing age haven’t heard of him!

I love the name, and haven't heard of the actor.

Not familiar with the actor and love the sound of the name. Also agree with others that middle names are not used frequently outside of our house so I wouldn't worry about it.

Vaguely familiar to me but I wouldn't question it. It's a great name!

Never heard of him, though after googling, I see I'm familiar with his sons lol. And I'm typically pretty knowledgeable about celebrities, so this wouldn't worry me at all!

@Becky: I would still use the name. He probably won't be going by his first and middle name very much. But as a person myself named after a famous person, I was always annoyed as a kid when people would routinely ask me if my parents were big fans of so-and-so. Yes, yes they were, obviously. But as society ages, I'm getting this question less and less. And as I myself am aging, questions like that don't even register as a bother anymore.

never heard of him. Love the name!!!

Thanks all for allaying my fears! There was literally one other middle name we both agreed on, and the first name was already somewhat of a concession. Boy names are harder than girls for us!

I did not know who Jack Cassidy was...and I watch a LOT of Turner Classic Movies. So I really think you're ok! And I love that name combo.
