My FIL came over yesterday, and he's still irritating the piss out of me. He tells us all. the. time. that we're spoiling her by holding her so much. We're actively concealing that we cosleep, because we know he'll be a jerk about it. Now yesterday he said we were spoiling her by stopping cutting her nails if she starts flailing too much. Apparently we think she's more delicate than she is, and it'll toughen her up if we cut her sometimes. (And it's happened before, so this is not an idle concern.) He was also actively trying to get her to watch tv. She's not even 3 months old!

This is the same man whose "advice" to us before she was born (we had a station at the shower with notecards for "advice and encouragement for the parents to be") was, "a belt works." How delightful is he going to be when he realizes that not only are we adamantly anti-spanking, but we don't plan to use punitive discipline at all?

Arg. Anyone else feeling annoyed with family lately? And how do you decide when to bite your tongue and when to speak up? Please reaffirm for me that he won't scar her for life with his crap when she's old enough to understand what he's saying about her.
