Need ideas/inspirational stories - lost my engagement ring :-(

I'm so sorry your ring is missing. A few years ago, I threw away a right hand ring that my mom had given me that had been hers for years. I realized it a few hours later but the trash had already been taken away by the garbage men. It was devastating. Sadly, I had never insured that specific ring. I made an insurance claim and they gave me $2,500. That won't allow me to recreate the ring. It was such a unique design that I'm not sure I even want to try. But I already have a few other rings I've inherited with stones that I'm going to use for a new right hand ring. I've held onto the insurance money for this reason for all these years. My best friend had to re-do her ring after she lost it. Insurance paid for it all. And two years later she found the original ring she lost! Go figure. Best of luck to you! Its something money can buy, so try not to be too upset over it.

You guys thank you all so much! Sorry I haven't been replying, actually have been on with insurance during each nap time and trying to take a small break from looking (and tearing my hair out). Trying to fold clothes and do some other things to take my mind off of it for now.
I have been joking with the insurance girl that I filed the claim because I've read so many stories about people filing the claim and then finding the ring. A little reverse jinx.

I hope your ring turns up! They're so small and so easy to misplace

I read a crazy story about a woman who found her lost wedding ring 20 years later, growing on a carrot in her garden. Naturally the carrot hadn't been there 20 years... apparently the ring had fallen into some vegetable peelings that were tossed into a compost bin, and ended up in the garden soil.

And is there any chance your LO could have found and hidden it? My husband's wedding ring went missing last summer just before a vacation. He knew exactly where he left it, but it was just gone. Then we realized our 18-month-old was just getting tall enough to reach that table, and must have either hidden or eaten it! Luckily, DS was going through a phase where he was copying me cleaning up, and he tossed everything he found "out of place" into this huge storage bin. Sure enough, that's where it was when we got back home!

@Mama Bird: I wish! He's only 11 months and doesn't understand "hiding" yet.
That is AMAZING about the carrot! I have been obsessively reading insane stories about people being reunited with their rings!

I hope you find it! Even though LO may not be old enough to consciously hide it, he could totally have stashed it somewhere without you noticing. My LO has been doing it for a while now. I just found my hairbrush stuffed in a pantiliner box in a random drawer in the bathroom.

@raintreebee: yeah I went the da after I realized it was gone. I definitely didn't wear it down there because I wear gloves to lift weights and it doesn't fit under the gloves. But I looked anyway and nada.

I lost a ring once, not my engagement ring and found it a few weeks later in the most bizarre place....my co-worker found it in the pocket in her car door. We think the ring fell off when I was in her office, possibly in her jacket. (It was a mesh ring from Tiffany's that stretched out two sizes and was always coming off). It sort of flung off when I was talking to her and we searched the entire room for days! Anyway, one day when she was getting out of her car, the light hit the ring and she saw it. I also lost an earring once and it was in my top drawer of my dresser. I'm sure it's in your house. Maybe it rolled and is under some place where you wouldn't think to look. Good luck!

    @brady80: that is insane!
Please let me have a story like that!

This may sound like a crazy idea, but if you think you misplaced it, (rather than it just falling off your hand), have you considered trying hypnosis to help you remember what you may have done that evening? I haven't ever used hypnosis to find something, but I have had clients who have been successfully hypnotized to help them remember and process past events, perhaps it could help you focus and recover the memory of what you were doing with your hand that evening.

    Good luck!

@Rocker2014: I actually don't think that is crazy at all! I might seriously do this and I never would have thought of it without your suggestion! Thank you!!!!

Omg!!! I'm so sorry to hear the ring is lost! I should be sleeping but had to finish this thread, hoping it was found...

Do you have a secret compartment in your drawers? We put my hubby's watch there and forgot to take it out during our move. We realized it after it was loaded and in the truck. When to look for it right after the move. It was gone and we filed a police report because the movers took it. Obviously! Turns out we found it months later? The secret compartment is on top, like four drawers up. It fell to the bottom of the dresser drawer, like near the floor.

One time, I lost my charm bracelet. Apparently, it fell into the space behind the drawer that pulls out in my small one drawer file cabinet. I did end up losing it again and it kills me, but I'm pretty sure I lost it at a park because I never took it off. I think the lobster claw broke ugh. I still think about it and get upset and it was only a few hundred bux so I can only imagine how it feels to lose an engagement ring.

Btw, I don't think the nanny did it either. Also, maybe God is flooding u with reminders so u don't falsely accuse her.

    Praying u find it soon!!!

Btw, it really sucks when u put something in a new hiding place because it's such a great hiding place, then forget where that hiding place is.

I keep checking this thread hoping you found it! And PLEASE do the hypnosis thing, so brilliant!

@JoJoGirl: I'm definitely looking into it! Even if I can remember putting it on the kitchen counter and it's clearly not there anymore, I'll know that it likely got thrown out and it's just gone.

And even though I'm totally sad and this will haunt me forever, the insurance claim girl reminded me that it's just a possession, even if it is sentimental, and it can be replaced. Just like @agold: said. So it does make me realize in the grand scheme it could be worse.

@MrsKoala: Thanks for this, btw. I started looking places he is all the time just in case. Under his play mat, in his play pen, in his toy chest, etc. No luck yet but I'll keep looking!

@SweetiePie: I think that's a good way to look at it. Maybe you and your husband can do something to make the new ring special, like pick one day, have him re-propose, then go on a special date and renew your vows.

@78h2o: If you knew my husband you'd understand why I'm laughing right now
That would only happen in my dreams.

Tomorrow is the four year anniversary of our engagement, was going to excitedly email him and remind him. Then I remembered I lost the ring and figured it would just be something else to make me sad or him upset.

Ugh I'm so sorry to hear this! I just keep envisioning it under your bed somewhere, tucked by the bed post! I just know its in your house somewhere, I have a feeling!

@psw27: Me too, I know it's there and I just won't ever give up looking. Unless the hypnotist works and I know it's gone for good

@daniellemybelle: Awe thanks, so sweet! I hope to update with good news, even if it's in a year! Haha.

    Any luck?!

I lost mine a few weeks ago! I was taking it off every night because it was giving me a weird rash. One night, I forgot to take it off but it was still bothering me so I woke up in the early morning, took it off and went back to bed. I couldn't find it the next day! Turns out that when I took it off, it flew into my makeup organizer. I never would have looked there. I for sure thought it put it directly on the counter! My husband found it though...phew.

I hope you can find yours!!

@HLK208: thank you for checking! No luck I stopped the intense search and now I just look passively as I'm doing chores or think of somewhere new randomly. I was driving myself insane by looking nonstop for two weeks!

Sorry to hear you haven't had any luck. Regarding the things turning up in crazy places- I once lost my passport right before a trip. I tore apart my room, especially the desk drawer where I kept it. My roommate looked, my (now) husband looked, nothing. I got a new one by going to New Orleans where they have a passport office that does 24 hour turnaround, so I was able to go on my trip. I put the new one in the same desk drawer. When I moved out of that apartment months later, I opened the drawer to empty it, and there were BOTH my passports, the new one and the old lost one, right together. It was absolutely bizarre. But all that to say, things really do turn up!

just saw this post now. all i can do is empathize. i lost my engagement ring too And it went missing during a period of less than 48 hours when i was 100% certain i did not leave our apartment. So i didn't even start looking for a couple of days, assuming it was in one of my "safe" places. But it wasn't. We never found it either, so sorry i have no inspiring story. We just moved recently (2 years later) and that was my final confirmation it is gone.

What i can say is that i slowly got over it. It was upsetting at first and i missed wearing it, but over time i realized it was just a ring and all the value of my engagement and marriage had nothing to do with it. And I still happily wear my wedding band - which i also lost later on in the same year, but then found within a week behind my bed after i looked there a few times (so i hope that is inspiring!).

Our plan is to get a new "engagement" ring at some point, perhaps in the next year or two because i have explained to my husband, and he understands, that i thought i was going to have that ring to wear forever and i only got to wear it for 2 years so that's why i miss it. The part that made me sad actually was that i realized no matter what replacement we get, even if it is identical to the original, it won't be my "engagement ring", because it won't be the ring we got engaged with.....but what i like is that it will still symbolize our relationship. I hope to coincide getting a new one with a milestone anniversary.

Just wanted to update. I never found the ring (though I still hold out hope for someday finding it). But my insurance did cover the full amount! So I'll be able to replace it. My jeweler already found a nearly identical stone.
Still feel sad but feel a sense of relief that we have a check for it. Whew.

@SweetiePie: Boo on not finding it still, but I'm still hoping you do one day! At least your insurance covered it so you can get a replacement!
