DD is 4 weeks and grunts non-stop. If she's awake, she's grunting. Even in her sleep, there's a lot of grunting. She doesn't seem to be in pain - she really doesn't cry much at all - but it's so strange. I feel like I have a baby gremlin! Anyone else have a grunter? Did they eventually grow out of it?

My DD2 at 12 weeks still does this! I think it's just them learning their voice.

They grow out of it. I don't remeber even though. Maybe about 4 months or so when they start making more of the gurgling baby noises?

DD was a huge grunter!!!!!! I mentioned ot to pedi at 2 months and he said she could have a softer trichiea.... but should out grow it by 6 months...

Haha yup - it's really common. Can't remember when my girls stopped.

One of the reasons we had to move him to his crib so early was because he was keeping us up at night with his grunting in the bassinet in our room!!!

J is 2.5 weeks old and grunts a lot. It's mainly for farts, but he's definitely a grunter.

They outgrow it, but yeah this was the reason I couldn't have the kids sleep in our room even as newborns!

Yes! Mine grunted a lot and it was something we asked about. Ped said its normal and it'll stop. Don't remember when it stopped but now at 9 months he has taken to grunting again to get my attention but it's hilarious and adorable

@.twist.: @wonderstruck: Yup, I just told DH this morning that I think last night was her last night with us! I can't be awake listening to grunting all night long when my DS gets up for the day at 5:50am.

My daughter was a major grunter. But hers was more like....croaking. Alllllll night long. She would do this thing with her throat that sounded kind of like a frog croaking. I think she outgrew it after 3 months, but I had to get a white noise app and turn that sucker up loud because she was in our room the first 6 months.

Both my babies were grunters and animal noise makers. Stopped around 8 weeks for both.

My baby is 6 weeks and grunts a lot. For the first few days of life he was making sort of moaning or sighing sounds constantly. My L&D nurse was concerned at first, but he grew out of it and sleeps pretty quietly now.
He does have a lot of nasal congestion now so he snores a little sometimes.
ETA: he's also a noisy little breast feeder! It's hard to make a phone call when he's nursing because people can hear him, lol!

Totally normal, and will go away! Haha. I have tons of videos of my DD grunting like a gremlin (you nailed it!) in her sleep, while she was awake, on every soft surface in our house...you get the picture.
I didn't even notice when it stopped until one day I was like "Whoa! She's not doing that anymore!"

@macintosh: Hahaha, DD was like this too. She's gotten a TINY bit better (she's 5.5mo now), but man. When she was a newborn I hated to nurse with anyone around. With all her slurping and grunting I felt like it was a liiiiiiittle too graphic.
