We're going to be putting LO under my husband's insurance policy, but I'm confused about that period of 30 days after he's born. From what I understand, the baby is automatically covered under... somebody's insurance for 30-31 days after birth. Is it mine? DHs? And do we basically just give them our insurance card at the pedi until he has his own insurance?
Also, what was the process for you to add LO to your insurance?
DH finally got the information from his HR department, but he's telling me that they said we have 7 days to add him and they need a birth certificate. And I told him that sounds totally wrong because it takes way longer than 7 days to get a birth certificate -- right? He admits he was confused, but was dismissive, saying, "Well, we have until February to figure it out." I'm adamant he needs to find out what's required of us and when sooner rather than later, because what if LO comes early? Grrrr. He really stresses me out sometimes. He just shut me down, saying, "Well, I can't go back now, I have work to do." It took him like 3 months and much nagging to finally go to HR and just get the premium rate. This is so frustrating. But now I think I've gotten very far off topic
Anyway, what did you have to do to add LO to one of your insurance plans, and how long did it take, documentation required, etc.? I just need to hear other people's experiences to quell my curiosity until I find out exactly what we need to do.
