@scg00387: I am planning to do cloth as well... Eventually!

I'm also living in my maternity yoga pants (thankfully I bought four pairs!) or pajama pants with nursing tanks. I think I put on makeup twice.

@kml636 i figured if i dove in right away it wouldn't seem overwhelming later! my husband said he'd only use the "easy ones" (all in ones) but a week later he is prefolding & snapping we don't have that many newborns so i can't wait to fit into one-size and not have to do laundry as often.

@scg00387: planning on cloth diapering, too, but the smallest in our stash start at 7 lbs and the peanut just hit 6 lbs on Monday. We're getting spoiled by disposables.

@scg00387: yep, we haven't started using CDs yet. I can't even imagine with the # of disposies we're going through right now... we only have 2 nb sized ones; so we'll hold off probably for at least another few wks! good for you for getting started so soon! how is it goin? i can't even imagine figuring out CDs on top of BFing and nb craziness!

Our cloth diapers, even the newborn ones, are HUGE on M right now (she's 6lbs15oz right now), and we are going through 10-12 diapers a day anyway. It's crazy!

M slept for 4 hours last night...bliss! I met with a LC today and I hope her advice will help us. M isnt opening her mouth wide enough, which is why I get horrific pain sometimes. We will try her suggestions and also got a referral for a cranialscaral therapist who may be able to help if we need more assistance.

We did find out that M is eating as much as an 8lb baby..little piggy! She only feeds 7-8 times a day, but since she's gaining so quickly it isn't an issue.

@mrsjyw @mrstricycle nice! our lil joeys are supposed to fit 6 lbs but they just seemed to start fitting well and not leaking out the waist yesterday (baby was about 7 lbs 1 week ago, not sure now) - but he is pretty skinny. to be honest I thought I'd fall back on disposables more - but the pampers swaddlers the hospital gave us leak every.single.time we use them when we leave the house. I'm nervous for next week when we'll be in hotels/moving for 3 days. There's no way I have enough NB cloth to go that long, but I'm not sure I have enough clothes to combat the leaks! But I am really liking cloth and can't wait to get out all my fun one-size prints

@petuniasandpearls that is awesome that she is getting that much without a bazillion nursing sessions!

@scg00387: haven't tried it yet! Despite having a great supply I haven't actually had any issues with leaking.

    GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts

@scg00387: luckily we havent had any trouble with the swaddlers or the huggies we were gifted at our shower... A actually would fit in the nb ones... and is probably ready for the onesize ones, but i want to find more of a groove (and less dipes/day) before we start the CDs... so that we stick with it for the long run!

A's been nursing well for the most part. He cluster feeds during certain times of the day... but is on a 3 hour cycle right now which I can def handle (I think?).... I have a hard time getting him unlatched... and the first couple seconds of when he latches on can hurt a bit... had a lil bloody nip yesterday... but I've been lansinohing the crap out of them and they feel a lil better today!

Hope you're all having a great Tuesday!

We're off to the pedi tomorrow to do a final weight check! (Fingers crossed)

A was 8lbs 11oz at birth, 7 lbs. 14 oz 2 days later...then 7 lbs. 14 oz last Wed... here's to hoping that our nursing sessions have paid off!

Do you guys change LOs clothes every single day and do normal clothes during the day and PJs at night? I have her in an outfit for maybe a day and a half before I change it. Am I being a delinquent mom? Its usually a footie or a gown. Unless she gets poop on it, then I change it immediately.

  13. petuniasandpearls

    cherry / 220 posts

@JessLC: we don't have many outfits that fit her so we do this too. However, usually she pees all over our changing table about once a day so we have to change her clothes.

  14. immabeetoo

    honeydew / 7687 posts

@mamamoose gotcha. mine hasn't been awful, thankfully, but i am still bummed this isn't going to work for me

@mrsjyw hope the weight check goes well!!

@jesslc i definitely don't! unless it is wet from poo/pee/milk, it stays on and all of our clothes are interchangeable for day & night. but i'm pretty laid back about clothes - I can appreciate the effort some moms put into matching, etc. but.. for me that will be special occasion only! If I could change all of our clothes into zip-up sleepers with feet.. I would! They rock!

I thought this article was really interesting on baby/kid sleep: http://www.troublesometots.com/are-you-keeping-baby-awake-too-long/ We definitely kept our baby up too long yesterday, on accident, and paid the price.

so we just came back from the ped, looks like E is almost back at her birth weight! was 6 lb 7oz at birth, now shes 6lb 5oz. the ped asked me if i wanted to keep exclusively pumping or try clipping the tongue tie. i've been leaning towards exclusively pumping since its alot less stressful, and i'd basically have to reteach LO how to latch since we haven't bf since last friday. i kind of feel bad for giving up so fast (she's not even 2 weeks!) but i think its best for us. so i can enjoy the late nights we have versus stressing about her latch. now that she's almost at her birthweight i think i'm going to stop waking her up at night and let her wake up by herself. i did this the last couple nights and she usually sleeps in 4 hr stretches which is good enough for me!

@JessLC: i change her outfit once a day. mostly because i know she'll grow out of her clothes so fast i want to make sure she gets to wear everything at least a couple times. but she just sleeps in the outfit she's wearing at night since its usually just a onesie or footie.

@kodybear: I think we are on the same path with exclusively pumping, but I'm still hoping we find the magic soon

W is going to be five weeks old tomorrow and I feel like we are just now getting into a groove with latching and breastfeeding. In the past few days nursing has ceased to be painful and I'm no longer dreading it. It took a private meeting with a LC and two support groups with a LC to get to this point (plus lots of work by myself and baby).

Today I went out with baby alone (without my husband) and it went great. I went to get coffee with some of the moms that I met at the breastfeeding group. It was nice to hang out with other moms with little ones that are close in age. My guy was the youngest at about 5 weeks, but there were a few babies who were about 8 weeks old.

@ChelseaRose: did you have to supplement with formula/ pumping?

Anyone else missing their jobs? Working full time is so much easier than this.

@highwire: I just talked to the girl who is backing me up at work and she was telling me how swamped she is and I just kept thinking... Work was soooo much easier than being a new mommy!!!

@JessLC: I usually just keep LO in sleepers rather than outfits and she'll wear one for 24 hours or so. Unless she gets per or poo on it, then obviously we change her right away.

I have a friend coming over tonight with dinner for us and I'm really looking forward to seeing her. She has a four month old so it will just be nice to get some reassurance from her that things DO get better/easier with time.

@highwire: I'm missing work! I love my job - it is so much less stressful than being a mom - more stimulating, too! I thought I'd be sad at having to go back to work, but at the moment I'm thinking I will enjoy a break from meeting baby's every need during the day. Gosh, that sounds awful! Maybe my mind will change as this gets easier - today was the best day we've had yet - I felt like my old self, went for a walk, showered, did laundry, made dinner. Score. Wearing baby in the Ergo was clutch - he was super happy and my hands were free to get a few things done.

@JessLC: we had her in sleepers all the time until a few days ago, when I started putting her in outfits during the day to try and help her feel the difference between nap sleep and night sleep. I love the easiness of sleepers but she looks so lovely in her outfits!

This whole experience has been so humbling. I can't believe how much I've had to forgoe in terms of modesty (constantly baring my breasts and all the gore involved in labor and delivery).and being independent. I have needed so much help and DH, my MIL and my mom have just gone above and beyond for me and Charlie.

  27. ChelseaRose

    persimmon / 1161 posts

@highwire: My son was almost entirely on formula until day 5-6 when my milk came it. I was pumping, but not following a strict schedule. and offering him the breast multiple times per day. About 5 days after I thought my milk came in, then it *really* came in (between 1-2 weeks) and there was a lot more. I've gone through phases of pumping more depending on problems. One of my nipples was really hurt twice, so I pumped one breast for 2-3 days on two separate occasions while nursing him on the other. Our latch issues have improved, but probably won't ever be perfect and will require a couple tries per nursing session. We still have more issues latching on one side compared to the other and I'm not entirely sure why. I definitely considered becoming an exclusive pumper for a while during the time that I was pumping one side. I did like knowing exactly how much he's getting, being able to schedule the sessions a little more, and also allowing my husband to help more with some feedings.

@JessLC: @highwire: @Mrs. Tricycle: A few days ago I told my husband that there is no way that I could be a stay at home mom on a full-time basis. I'm glad we need my income and benefits, so that my staying home is not an option.

@JessLC: We don't change her clothes unless they're messy. She lives in onesies since we're down in FL and it is still quite warm here. She can be so warm that her head gets sweaty when I'm supporting it during nursing sessions in just a short sleeve onesie, mittens, socks, and an A+A swaddle blanket!
So, sleepers will wait until it is cool enough here. Either way unless she pees on herself while getting changed, a diaper leaks, or she gets spit up on the collar area it stays on for at least a day.

@highwire - YES. So humbling. I am a type-A, do-it-all-myself kind of lady and becoming a mother has really forced me to not only accept help from others but actually ask for it too.
I am also so so glad I stuck to my guns about just having my husband in the room during labor and delivery. I am really not sure if I could have made it through without an epidural if I had been around anyone other than him and my midwife/nurse. I'm a modest person and I've had to adjust a lot to breastfeeding and post-partum care but if I had to wing it during delivery with all that goes on I would have been way more anxious.

Okay phew! I'm glad im not being a totally lazy mom.

So I have a little dilemma...need some advice! After L was born we went to the pediatrician that she saw in the hospital for her 3 day check up because the ped that we originally wanted to go to who is really convenient and in our neighborhood was closed due to hurricane sandy. We really like her - great bedside manner and super caring, but is a pain in the butt to get to. For L"s one month check up we decided to go to the ped in our neighborhood and we didn't like her as much. Bad bedside manner, not warm or caring...big attitude. So what would you do? Go to the ped that is more convenient or the one you like better? I mean it seems like an easy decision but I'm trying to think ahead when I go back to work and I don't have the time and energy I have now to schlepp on the subway and make two transfers and then come back to the apartment and then go back on the subway to work again...hmm.

  32. SleepyMonkey

    grapefruit / 4006 posts

@lindseykaye: same. I am totally type A and losing control of my life ans schedule was so hard for me. So so humbling that o couldn't do eveyrhing by myself. Its like my entire life, I've been able to work hard and get what I wanted in terms of career and life. But working hard doesn't get what I want with motherhood! L has her own will and I can't control it. That was so damn hard for me to adjust to.

  33. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@JessLC: I had an OB with horrible bedside manner so I will do whatever I have to so that I have a pedi that is kind and gentle and helpful.

How is everyones recovery going? I had a second degree tear but my bleeding has almost stopped completely and I'm one week PP

  34. ChelseaRose

    persimmon / 1161 posts

@highwire: C-section recovery was much easier than I ever imagined. I am mostly just frustrated because I know that I am supposed to limit myself with lifting and physical activity. I still (barely) need panty-liners at almost 5 weeks post-partum, but this is quite an improvement from the diaper-like pads that were needed at the beginning.

  35. SleepyMonkey

    grapefruit / 4006 posts

@highwire: you're lucky. I'm still leaking some fluid and I'm 5+ weeks Pp. I went to the gyn today and she gave me the go ahead for sex. Yay and eek!

Speaking of sex...what's everyone thinking for birth control? I want to avoid hormonal BC but hate condoms.

@JessLC: we usually do but have gone a day and a half or so if he doesn't get then dirty. Our go to is a vest shirt and swaddle blankets or sack. The past couple days we've done outfits...otherwise onesies...

As far as pedi... I hated my ob.... and am so in love w our pedi because of his personality and bedside.manner...

@highwire: work is SO much easier than taki g care if a.nb!!!!

I think I've been really lucky w my epi healing... swellings gone... and I'm.moving like normal almost all day... still taking motrin... but that's more for the body aches!

@mrsjyw: I have an rx for the minipill but it is supposes to hit your milk supply. I was thinking copper IUD but it is supposed to make your period way heavy and crampy and my period was already heavy to begin with. Don't want to rely on pull n pray (I'd seriously cry for days if I got pregs within a year)! Bleh. No options left!
