My job does not allow me to work from home (I'm a teacher). If something came up, I would have to use a personal/sick day. DH's job allows him to work from home but only in emergencies as he has scheduled meetings every day. But his work itself can be done from home.

Nope. All of my work is done on a computer network that is only on my work computer which I can't take home. I wish i could!

I'm grateful that my job is super flexible and I can work at home when needed/wanted. I can even call-in to staff meetings if I don't want to attend in person.

Yes, I can work from home if needed, and I'm so grateful for that flexibility. I don't do it unless absolutely necessary though.

Yep, except that I might not have all the paper files I need if I don't plan ahead. About half of our cases are entirely on the network so I could easily work on those, and once we finally get a new support person in the office, one of their jobs will be to make a duplicate digital copy of each of our paper files for the network so eventually I'd be able to access those, too. Can't wait.

Yep, everything I do is on my work laptop so I can do it just as easily from home. The only thing that's more difficult is calling my co-workers because most of them are in Europe/Asia, so on my personal phone that would be $$. I generally work from home once every two weeks or so, and I schedule it around my meeting schedule.

Nope. I'm a scientist - I need my bench and all its equipment. There's definitely paperwork days that *could* be done at home though - will have to see what the policy is at my new job.

Yes, I could via a remote desktop. I would have to take calls on my cellphone or landline though, which is annoying.

No. It really frustrates me, because technically I could work from home, it's just that my boss cannot handle that. She likes to have everyone in the office at all times.

yep! im working from home rt now... and do so regularly 2-3x a week.
i love not having the commute, but i also like my office days and being around my coworkers. the downfall of wfh is that i have many a time worked past normal working hours and on wknds ... i've even worked on a project as i was nursing ds down to bed one time because of a hardstop client deadline.
anyway, the pros most def outweigh the bad. and im super grateful for the flexibility.

@Rubies: Yup! I have a senior coworker who probably prefers that i'm at the office but my manager doesn't really care. As long as you get your work done and reachable, that's all that matters.

I can if I have to but they don't want people abusing the system. I currently work at home every Monday. I'd only try after exhausting my PTO since I already am working out of the office on MOndays.

I have in the past, and I can (and do every now and then out of necessity), but I don't like working from home. Being surrounded by a million things I could be doing for the house, as well as the comforts of home, makes me super unproductive and it just frustrates me. I'd rather get up, get ready, and go in to work. When I'm at work, I'm 100% focused on work. (and take breaks to go on hellobee of course

I manage an inside sales team and design marketing for a company. I can do the design portion of my job and do payroll at home but other than that, I'm needed in the office.

If I needed to, I could. I do 95% of my work on my computer, so I could do it at home if need-be. I wish my job just let me work at home all the time, but it's kind of important to interact with the people I work with

Kind of....I'm in accounting, so I prefer to know in advance because that way I can bring documents home, but yes in general I could, if needed, work from home.

Yes, we have remote connections to the office network, office laptops, office phones. Well tracked! Most staff can work from home whenever an emergency comes up.

Yes, I 100% work from home (my company is a video conferencing giant, so it's kind of our thing).
Good: no commute, no dress code (except I Ron Burgundy-it when I have video calls), get to spend time with LO, get to run errands during my lunch
Bad: no interaction with the outside world, other than virtual... it kinda sucks not having actual coworkers!

at my old job, I could work from home as long as I didn't have meetings (and even then, I could call in if it was an emergency and I couldn't make it in). I'm a grad student now so it's very much my own schedule, aside from teaching and occasional meetings (finished classes over a year ago). dh works from home always--he was able to keep his job when we moved for my grad program and works off a company lap top.

Yes, I can work from home whenever I want to. Though it would probably be frowned upon if you did it too often. I expect if I go full term I'll WFH the last week.

Yes! It's definitely not officially allowed, but my bosses are great and I can stay home to work if needed for whatever reason. However given that my office is 3km down the road and I am much more productive there, going in is more ideal!

Yes. But it's really really hard to do . . . way too many documents at the office to make it a practical option. I plan when I am going to work at home a schlep it all home with me!

Not a spur of the moment type thing. It could probably be arranged for me to do some of my work from home with a remote login, but never if I just woke up and couldn't make it.

Teacher here too, so no... Although when sick I have to plan all my missed lessons out for the sub so I kind of feel like I do anyway. Hubby has to go in for part of his role but can deal with a lit of his admin from home so he's slightly more flexible. That's why he ended up going to a baby sleep seminar instead of me!
