We hadn't said a word about our lo on fb before he was born, but the morning of my dad posted something like "next time you hear from me, I'll be a grandpa". It upset me for a minute but I got over it quickly. It caused me to get a lot of texts when I really didn't want to though because we were on pins as it was.

My friend did this to me and I was upset. I hadn't told my dad or brother yet! I love @debbiei8's idea of preventing people from tagging!!!

Didn't happen for me because I was explicit that the peraon who announced for me would have no baby holding privileges until he was 1.

I'm amazed at how much this happens to other people.

One of my friends did this and I was PISSED because when she came by the hospital I mentioned that we hadn't posted anything on FB yet. She posted the pics she took of us when she came to the hospital. They were not flattering at all. Not how I envisioned introducing LO to the world.

My labor was outed on FB. I was trying to keep it on the DL since I didn't want anyone at the hospital. After three days of text/FB silence people figured out I must be at the hospital. I was adamant that nobody was to announce LOs birth.

Yep - my SMIL and SIL did this to me! I was pissed!!! I found out because my BFF is friends with them and told me. So I sent them both an e-mail, basically pretending I didn't know that they had done it, and requested that they not say anything on FB yet until we had a chance to tell our family. My SIL was awesome about it and took her post down immediately. But my SMIL was all "Too late, haha!" Ugh...

I also disabled my wall and set it so no one could tag me for my entire pregnancy. I just didn't want any outside opinions or comments from random people on Facebook. I re-activated just before I went in for my scheduled csection to ask for prayers/good thoughts. I can't stand when people post things on Facebook that isn't theirs to post!

I posted a thread about this a while back because it drives me crazy. We will definitely be shutting down our walls before baby arrives!

@ChiCalGoBee: it was my brothers BFF. He was only 25. I read the post and called my mom crying, and she said my brother didn't even know yet.

My mom & his mom are very close, and she told my mom that her sister found out on Facebook too. Apparently his girlfriend told someone who told someone, who posted it on FB.

But come on people, use your fucking head.

I ended up with a c section so my mom told all of my extended family for me (which was totally fine with us but someone could have easily posted before I was out of the OR!). We got to spend time as a family and posted a picture and all of his info that night.

@debbiei8: we did the same exact thing and actually didn't even announce we were pregnant.....all our close friends and family knew because we called them. We only announced our LO when she came home from the hospital. It was a shock to some people who didn't even know I was preggo haha.

That being said, I just went thru my FB and deleted a bunch of people. I realize that if I don't care about saying "happy birthday" to them when their bday pops up I really don't care enough for them to see my profile and vice versa.

Yes but only with DD2. FIL did and posted the first pic. So annoyed.

The circumstances around LO's birth were really scary and he was in the NICU and we told people very slowly (we only told close family) and I think out of respect for the situation, no one posted. I never even did because I was already being bombarded as the news made its way through the grapevine and I didn't want to answer any more questions.

Yup BOTH sides of our family did this to us. DH's cousi. Congratulated us and tagged us, so all of our friends saw it. And my dad posted about it but didn't tag. I told my dad flat out that it's bad etiquette to do that, but ultimately I was the cousin who really announced it. It was annoying but I had other things on my mind to dwell on something as silly as Facebook.

Didn't happen to us because nobody knew when he was born but my mom, dad, mil and SIL and none of them had a fb so me and DH was able to announce it when we got ready which was hours after LO was born and I didn't tell anyone what hospital we was at to advoid visitors other then our parents/SIL and two of my cousins and only because one of them worked there

We announced for my sister by congratulating her on FB. We asked first, and only did it because she said she knew everyone was waiting and she didn't want to go online just yet. She wanted to soak up baby time and gave us the go ahead. I would do the same. We waited to announce until later that morning, but if someone were there I would let them

After we delivered, we let family and a few close friends know. One of our friends must have told her mom because her mom wrote on my fb congratulating us. Usually it would have annoyed me, but I was so wrapped up with my precious bundle I hardly even noticed or cared.

no one except our neighbors and family knew i was even in labor, much less that DD was born! we didn't even tell our friends she was here until my parents and in laws came to the hospital because we hadn't told anyone her name yet! so i had a bunch of friends that were shocked! that being said, my labor was quick, happened during the morning/afternoon and we didn't really want anyone waiting for us either way!

i did find out a close friend had her second baby through another friend's instagram pic! i had somehow gotten left off the mass announcement message and was so confused when i saw the photo of the new baby!

My mom posted before I did on FB, but these things don't really bother me. I don't care if I make an announcement, she makes or, or neighbor Mary makes it. People are going to know I had a baby and I'm fine with it.

*i would definitely be pissed if someone took a bad postpartum picture of sweaty, fat me and posted it. But just a word post? Fine by me.

I don't think I said anything on FB till the day we left the hospital and we got some cute newborn pics outside.
