We waited a long time to tell our families (or anyone) about the pregnancy. I wanted to make sure everything was perfect.
When we finally were ready to tell, we shipped off a couple of very special announcement packages (that we put tons of time and thought and love into) to both of our families. This is the VERY first grandchild on both sides.
My parents got theirs a week ago. They called, crying and super happy, asking tons of questions and wanting to know every detail of my pregnancy so far.
His parents got theirs today. They called. His Mom was happy. His Dad?
"Well, congratulations, I guess."
"You know, I'm afraid this is going to make it harder for you to get more education." (by the way, we already have our dream jobs (we're aid workers) and we plan to stay in this for life, and any continuing education we want is paid for by our organization, so this changes nothing)
"I don't think Arden's health is good enough for pregnancy." (I have perfect health. I always get headaches around him because he's so infuriating, so he think's I'm sickly. Seriously, he's my only medical "problem". Also, I'm 18 weeks. A little late for "You can't handle a pregnancy" comments)
Etc. Let me note that they were fully aware we were TTC.
Am I right to be mad and sad and just so hurt right now?
Is it asking too much for ten minutes of joy and happiness before he starts in on the negatives?
