Has anyone opted to take on a second job when money has gotten tight? We feel like we are in a bit of a difficult phase right now, where we are both happy with our careers, not quite ready to look for other employment, but having some difficulty "exhaling" around our bills.
We make a decent living (and live in an extremely expsensive area!) but have tremendous expenses which can not be curbed (i.e. graduate school loans, car payments, mortgage, etc.) We live within our means but feel like we are just barely making ends meet. Ideally, we would like to go back to saving but for some reason, there is always something that "comes up" and keeps us from putting any money aside. We have never had to worry about putting food on our table and live nicely, but this is a tougher time for us. Additionally, while we planned for the daycare costs, it's benn tough getting used to that huge cut in our monthly take-home pay.
To this end, DH announced last night that we wants to consider taking a part time job on top of his full-time career. I was a bit stunned to hear this but maybe this will help us through this transitional phase.
I am sad, because I don't want this extra burden to fall on his shoulders, but it would work better with me home with LO. I am heartbroken that DH would not get to spend much time with LO, but perhaps in the immediate, this is what needs to happen to get us through to the next stage?
Can you make any suggestions on a type of job that might be worth DH's time? He is not "above" anything! I was originally thinking maybe somewhere like Whole Foods where we could at least get some kind of discount on groceries?
Ahhh, Target!
