My doctor first checked me at 37 weeks. At that appt I was a little over 2cm dilated and 80% effaced. At 38 weeks I was 3.5cm dilated and 85% effaced. My water broke at 38w5d and when I got to the hospital I was 4cm dilated and 100% effaced.

You're getting close!

At my 37 week visit on a Monday, they checked me and there was nothing going on. The midwife said "well call us if anything happens" and I laughed out loud. My DD was born at 40 weeks and 6 days and I had to be induced. Well, that WEDNESDAY my water broke and DS was here that night! So go figure!

No experience here, but just wanted to offer some moral support! Hope everything goes smoothly!

I just clocked in at a measly 1cm dilated at 37w0d. My dr didn't tell me effacement.

I am scheduled for induction on Dec 2nd, and I'm really hoping my body continues to make some progress to ready me for induction. I'm getting more and more worried about the difficulty of induction, especially if my body isn't at all ready to go.

I was already a "loose 1 cm and 50% effaced by 30 weeks.

By 36 weeks I was same dilation and 75% effaced.

By 37 weeks, 2 cm and 80% effaced.

By 38 weeks, 3 days was 4 cm and almost totally effaced.

Gave birth 38 weeks, 4 days.

I had zero effacement and no dilation on my due date. I had her via c-section (no labor, it was planned) that day

I was a couple cm dilated and 100% effaced by late 38/early 39 weeks. OB said she was “sure” I would go into labor early. By 40 weeks I was the same. I had a scheduled c section at 40+2.

@blackbird: The short version of a long, painful story is that my husband works offshore and due to the type of job he has- he drives the oil rig and is 2nd in command of the whole operation- there's not a lot of options to replace him or negotiate his schedule. He is scheduled to leave a few days after my due date, and the way the calendar worked out for us, my dr agreed to doing a "social induction" to ensure that he'll be here. I spend 50% of my time on my own, without him because he's away, and this is the one thing that I would die without him next to me for. So even though I'm freaked out by induction and the possibility of a lengthy labor, I'm just going to tough it out because I want him to be here, holding my hand, when our baby girl gets here. I'm just praying that my body will be somewhat ready to roll so that things won't be long and drawn out, and then require a Csection after tons of labor... But I'm keeping an open mind and whatever happens, happens, as long as she is okay and he is here.

@prettylizy: He gets home Monday night and I've already told him that as difficult as it is to have sex with my huge belly, and the fact that it's hard for me to find a position that doesn't hurt (I have something going on in there!), we're both just going to have to take one for the team here and there and get it figured out-lol:)

@scg00387: Amen, sister! There doesn't appear to be any method to the madness either- which is frustrating! People's water break sometimes at 1cm dilated, and others walk around for weeks at 3cm and end up induced past their due date! I need a more concrete process...."If you are this, then this will happen." Done and done.

I was 1cm dilated and not effaced at my 37 and 38 wk checkups. At my 39 week checkup I was 2.5cm dilated and like 10% effaced. My water broke two days later!

@Princessbaby, gotcha! I have a lot of military friends who got induced a little early because it's such a gamble when they're away. Even if your body's not quite "ready" and you end up c-sectioned, you will be 100% fine. It's not the awful, horrendous scary thing that it's made out to be sometimes. A few of my friends have had them and they're like, "eh, whatever" now that it's said and done Big picture!
