@lawbee11: Oh no, I'm sorry she's dealing with that too! G has had 3 ear infections in the last three months. Never a double, it's always her left ear, but they suck! She's been on 3 different antibiotics, and like you, I thought that the first two just didn't work, because they came back to quickly!

They gave her the children's version of a Z-pack this time, and it worked a lot better. I think we're on 3 weeks without one now? (knock on wood).

As for tubes, it's our pediatrician's policy to refer you to an ENT for a consult if the child has 5 ear infections in 6 months. I'm crossing my fingers that doesn't happen!

Following along, we were on a 10 day course of amoxicillin, found out that didn't kick it, now finishing up a both 10 day course of cefdinir (or something like that...). Fingers crossed it's gone after this!

DS got tubes after several ear infections. He had 4 in about a year's time but the last one took two rounds to clear the infection. However, the actual fluid didn't totally clear and we were referred to an ENT. He got tubes and his adenoids taken out at 17 months. We quickly noticed a difference in his speech. He repeated more and tried to say more.

We've had 3 ear infections here since DS started daycare. I would agree with what you said, it seemed like they improved but never really went away. He got antibiotics for the first two and the third he did recover from on his own thankfully. I'm about to take him to the doctor again today since I think he has his 4th. It's hard to tell because he doesn't always show signs of being sick before we discover it, all of a sudden he'll be very hot and have a temperature and yup, it's infected!

@lawbee11: the daycare sick cycle kills me. He's been in daycare since 6 weeks but in the last 3 months we've had 2 ear infections, rsv, and hand foot mouth. I feel like we live at the dr office.

poor thing!! LO had her first ear infection about a month ? ago, and they gave her a 10-day script of amoxicillin. it got rid of it. I hope she feels better soon!

@lawbee11: as soon as you get the meds in her mouth blow in her face! It forces them to swallow.

I had chronic ear infections as a small child. We learned later that it was because the antibiotics just didn't work for me. However not without damaging my premanat teeth. My teeth are all stained yellow from constant antibiotic use. I would talk to the doctor because clearly what they are trying isn't working.

@2PeasinaPod: yes, a drive by clinic would have been ideal in my LO first year of life! Great idea.

@lawbee11: in my LO first year I think he had approx 6 ear infections. The first time he was on amoxicillin but each time after that they put him on cefdinir. It was terrible. He ended up pooping so much each time he was on the antibiotic and got a terrible diaper rash on top of it so he never wanted his diaper changed. We did see an ENT and they did recommend tubes. My husband and I decided to wait and see what happened because we were so conflicted about what to do. I can tell you that I'm glad we decided against them because he seems to have outgrown them. He is 2.5 now and I think has only gotten 2 in the past year and a half. His stomach also tolerates the antibiotic better too.
He started daycare in the winter which I think didn't help either.
Hang in there! I hope it's better. It's so sad to see them go through this stuff.

My little sister had chronic ear infections in her infancy. She did end up getting tubes in her ears, and I don't remember any ear infections after that.

Sorry you're having to deal with this-- I hope you find a good solution soon!

@lawbee11: I second triple paste and triple paste AF. The antifungal was a life saver when it was really bad!

Yup, double ear infection and bronchiolitis. We have to watch his breathing this afternoon and take him to the e-room if it doesn't get better!

Oh me oh my, amoxicillin did nothing for my son, and on top of that, he's allergic to it!

So, we do a four day course of azithromycin now and it's like magic.

@MamaMoose: I forgot to do the probiotics this last time around and he/I are paying for it now, I will never forget again.

@looch: It's amazing how much of a difference it makes!!!

@lawbee11: Is M eating purees well? I find the easiest thing to do is to give them on a spoon if LO knows how to open her mouth and eat off a spoon. The dose is 5 drops and I always found it would drip down my boob before I could get M latched on (but I have pretty flat nipples so not much to hold up the drops).
