We have someone coming to give us a quote tomorrow. I have never hired someone to clean and am wondering what is reasonable? And what frequency?
I just can’t keep up anymore with working at home and both kiddos home all day. So I told DH we are getting someone until the kids go back to daycare and I go to the office. We’ve never had room in the budget but with not paying daycare we do and I’m kind of excited!

We’ve gone through several cleaning services and have paid $65-$85/cleaning. The best one we have used is our current one (pre-COVID) at $85/every 3 weeks.
We got a quote from a professional cleaning service several years ago and it was like $120 every 2-3 weeks. We just can’t swing that, so since then have found cleaners through word of mouth or Craigslist (just check references).

Probably depends on your location/cost of living and square footage/number of bathrooms. We are in Massachusetts (relatively high COL). Our house is 1,800 sq ft with 1.5 bathrooms and we pay $120 for a full cleaning. I honestly don't think it's enough and usually add another $20 as a "tip".

Agree that COL / location will make a diff so hard to compare.
When I was in NYC up until a year ago, we paid $120 for our 1600sqft 3 bed 3 bath apartment.
Now in the burbs of NY we pay $150 every 2 weeks for a 4 bed 4.5. bath almost 3,000 sq ft house.
But I know that my sister who has a 2600 sq ft 4 bed 1.5 bath in western PA pays like $80. Which I can’t even wrap my mind around.

In NJ for a 2200 sq ft house and I pay $100 but that is less than most people I know (and probably just because I have had her for years).

We are in a somewhat high COL area too and we paid 140 every two weeks for a 3BD 3ba house. It's maybe 2000sq feet? But we also have 2 pets who shed a lot.

We’ve had the same woman for 5 years. It’s not a service, she comes every 2 weeks. I had to force her to take more money when we moved into a larger space.
NYC area
1400 sq ft 3/2: $90
3000 sq ft 5/4: $120

Ditto on COL/size. We have a 2500 sq foot, 2 level house in Northern VA (high COL), and we pay $170 for a once-per-month cleaning.

Thanks ladies for all the replies. Our house is about 1300 sqft 3bdrm 2.5 bath and we are in Canada. It will be interesting to see how much.

We pay a person, not a service, $100 every 2 weeks for 2,500 sqft, 4 bdrm, 2.5 bath. She charges an extra $20 if we ask her to also clean the finished basement which adds on maybe 900 sqft plus .5 bath. I usually tip her $10-$20 on top of that b/c I think it's pretty low. We had other quotes that were over $150 for the same service. We're in the Chicago suburbs.

Wow I think we overpay! But we are in an extremely high COL area (San Francisco). We pay $140 every week, for a 1700 sq ft, 2 bedroom, 3 bath.

Our area is considered average COL for the US. We pay $170 for a biweekly cleaning of our 3,000sqft home. It’s through a company and they increase prices annually at what seems to be a reasonable rate.

He came today and gave a quote and it will be $110. I thought it was reasonable so he starts next Tuesday. I can’t wait!
This means instead of cleaning this weekend I can do some organizing.

@JJ2626: I think that's just Bay Area prices! I'm dying over all the answers- we're in the Bay Area too and were paying $150 every 2 weeks for our 1000 sq ft place.

I use a family cleaning business for the past three years. We paid $85 for once a month 5 bd/4 bath 3800 sq feet in a low area. She cleans over 30 houses in our neighborhood and I think it’s just the rate she gave everyone. My other friends who live in our neighborhood have cleaners at $100 for once a month. When we first moved here, I used a service company and they charged like $220 for initial cleaning and they didn’t bring any cleaning supplies. They had to use our vacuum and our cleaning supplies. They also didn’t do a good job.

We are in Ontario, Canada and pay 80$ every two weeks. We have a 2500 sq/f house and we think it’s very reasonable. Our cleaner comes for 4 hours. She does 3 bathrooms, vacuuming and mopping, dusting and changed the sheets on all the beds. We also leave an extra job if she has time left like clean the appliances or do the windows.

Yeah agree with others, it depends on a few things.
In the Northeast, we have someone come once a month and it's $140 per visit (we don't have them do sheets, or our finished basement), if they came 2x a month (every other week) it would be $100 per visit.

@hellobeeboston: Area really does have a lot to do with it. I’m hoping I’ll be able to work it into the budget to keep them once a month once we are back to using daycare.

@ALV91711: FX it works out honestly it is one of the things that really keep me sane because juggling the kids, work and the complete housekeeping is so hard and I give major props to anybody who manages to do it. For me it has a major effect on my mental health to not have to worry so much about it.
