Have you been a juror?
Last month, I was asked to be a juror for my city but they didn't need me. This time, it's for the county and I was hoping they wouldn't need me. I'm a little curious about what to expect. Plus, I get out of work... kinda nice.

I've never been selected but I think it would be interesting. My mom was on a jury for a murder case and my sister was for a bad drunk driving accident.

I interned for the summer in a courtroom. Jury selection is long and boring, but the actual cases are usually pretty interesting!

I was on a jury once and once I called the number to check in and they said they wouldn't need me. The jury I was on was an attempted murder one (among other charges) and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. The last day when it was over, I cried & felt like I had just ruined someone's chance at ever having a life. I know civic duty is important, but it felt awful.

I was selected as a juror during the middle of law school! I sat for almost two weeks.
My mom has gotten picked before and my sister had an excuse to get out of the case they were picking.
Truthfully, I didn't mind it. I thought it was interesting!

I just got my jury summons, but I don't think I'm going to be able to go... the dates they are offering are on my maternity leave! I've been wanting to go just to see what it's like, but maybe next time....

I have selected (or, more accurately, de-selected) several juries. It really depends on the case as to what the attorneys are looking for (or trying to avoid) in each juror. It can be a long, drawn out process . . . it will probably surprise as to what constitutes a trial by a jury *of your peers* . . . and that's all I have to say about that!

I did jury duty back in March for a drug bust, it was a short trial, I was selected on Wednesday monring, trial started Wednesday afternoon and was done by Friday afternoon. It was pretty painless and an easy trial, so I got lucky!

I know most people think it's a drag, especially if it involves lining up child care, but I've always wanted to be picked for jury duty!

Yikes, didn't realize both city and county could call you in such close proximity!
I was once called in with hundreds of people for an awful murder trial. We just filled out a paper that day and left within a few hours. Luckily, I was able to say I am self employed and couldn't be out that long (estimated 6 weeks). I heard about the trial on the news and all the awful shenanigans the guy did to delay the trial. So glad I wasn't on it, I don't think I could've taken hearing all the details!

I've been summoned once to be in the selection pool, but I wasn't selected. There was like 75 of us, and they only needed 10 so the first 10 "qualified" people got the job. I was #72 so I was pretty safe about not being selected.

I got a notice for jury duty the week before my wedding. Luckily, they excused me and I got my service delayed a month.
I did end up getting chosen for the trial. It was a half day (Monday) of jury selection. Got there at 8:00am, left around 1:00pm. Tuesday was the trial. Got there at 8:00, trial finished around 4:00. We deliberated until 7:30. They served us dinner from a local restaurant which was really good.
I was annoyed at first, but I actually enjoyed participating.

I'm probably going to do jury duty at the end of the summer since I had to delay it with nursing. It'll be my first time too.

I was summoned once but was released because I was away at college at the time. My dad has served on several civil juries and mom served on one, had a really bad experience and they have taken her name off the list because of it.

@MrsH: the one time I was called in for JD they picked a lawyer with a corporate background. I was a little surprised.

@bluestriped bee: I thought you could only be called in once a year.. But I could be making that up.. I know one time LA county called me in 3 months after I had shown up in Santa Clara, so I notified them that I had already been called in and they told me I was released for a year.

I was selected for a weeklong child molestation trial...I suppose if I really didn't want to do it I could have just raised my hand with everyone else and said I didn't want to do it.
@MrsH: That's what the attorney sitting next to me said, but we ended up with one on the jury that I was picked for! He was useful as a foreman.
@mrs. bird: The experience affected me for a long time, too. I still think about it sometimes even though it was a few years ago. The victims are now men older than me, but the trial demonstrated so many social issues and I got so frustrated that people are still not all on the same page about these things.

@LaineysMom: oh, yeah, that's what I thought but since it was for two different courts I thought I had to do both. If I would have been selected for the local court, I would have asked to be excused for the county.

I got picked to sit on a jury once, it was a burglary case. It was extremely interesting, but I was just an alternate so I didn't decide anything. I do remember we got a free sandwich out of it!
We moved to TX about two years ago, and I was summoned in February but I got out of it since I'm a SAHM

@bluestriped bee: did you go in the first time? I know everyone who got called into the courtroom got "released" for one year even if they didn't serve on the jury.

I got picked twice this year (one was state and one was county I believe). I didn't go though because I'm LO's primary caretaker. It would have been interesting before I had LO but I couldn't go.

@LaineysMom: no, the first one I didn't even have to show up because I called the hotline and they said they didn't need any jurors. I think that's why I didn't feel bad about going today.

@bluestriped bee: I think it said that if you're the primary caretaker of a child younger than 7 than you can be excused from having to report. LO was about three months the first time and six the second. I would have loved to go before she was born but I was kind of glad to get out of having to arrange everything for her care.

@BelugaBean: oh, yeah. I got selected for a case and they said it could go for two weeks. I wouldn't do if I had children under 6 months.

I had to report once, but the case I was assigned to ended up settling out of court, so was free to leave around 11am! Woot!

I've never been summoned, but I wouldn't mind it! My brother was summoned, but not selected when he was in the summer after he graduated high school.

@LaineysMom: Well, I wasn't selected. I kinda wanted to be selected. I wanted to hear more of the case.
It was definitely interesting being involved in how they pick jurors.
Guess I'll have to wait til next time.

@LaineysMom: No. I didn't. I was in the court room but didn't make it to the juror box. I was close. I was about 6 people away from being called. Am I allowed to talk about the case? I think I am because I know very little about the actual case... and I'm not part a juror.
