I gave birth at 40w2d and received another shot after he was born.
I think because you will go longer than 40 they want to be safe. (& yes, typically it's 2 shots, though sometimes they test the baby and if baby is also negative they won't do a second)

Interesting. I'd have to look into seeing whether there is any evidence for that, but in our clinic we do it at 28 weeks and then after delivery, no matter when you deliver. LOTS of women go past 40 weeks so it would seem strange to schedule at 28 if it needed to be repeated exactly 12 weeks later.

I'm not as far as you, but I've had one already this pregnancy and will get another at 27 weeks which is where my next appt falls. I'll get it again after birth but I haven't heard anything about needing one between 27 and 40+

@magnolia: because rhogam is an antibody, it tends to break down in the body around the three month mark. Getting an extra dose after 12 weeks is to just to make sure you have a good number of rhogam antibodies in your blood before baby is born. It's possible you would still need one postpartum. That way all your bases are covered.
