Every single person on DH's side of the family chain smokes. Even his friends and best friends.

I expressed that if/when we have kids, I don't want them being exposed to second/third hand smoke.

DH freaked out. He said that I don't want his family seeing our kids etc.

I tried to clarify steps saying that as long as they don't smoke an hour before being with the baby and that they wash their hands and change their top, they can see and hold the baby.

I was called ridiculous, extreme and outrageous.

I don't think it's unreasonable and smoking is something I will not negotiate on. I added in that once the kid(s) are older and have a stronger immune system, I could probably get over the third-hand smoke factor and take them over to visit extended family. But I am not compromising with a newborn/infant. I don't care how much of a bitch I am.

How would you approach this situation? Am I being unreasonable?
