Just wondering if I should go alone or have DH come along with me. In that case, DS would also need to come along with us. Or, is the first appointment not that big of a deal since we've already been through it once? Would you bring your DH to this appointment for Baby #2?

Do you know what will happen at this first appointment? My first appt was at about 6.5 weeks and it was the Dr saying "So you're pregnant?" asked when my LMP date was and told me what my due date would be, which I had already calculated myself. She asked if I had any questions and then sent me out to the front desk to book my next appt a month later. So it would have been a huge waste of time for him to come with me to that one, he only comes for ultrasounds since I have to travel about 45 mins each way for appts and no point in both of us missing that much work.

@xInfinity: agreed. Depends what they do for your first appointment. Mine was just to confirm LMP and give me some literature and vitamins to try. They wouldn’t even let DH come in the room with me because they wanted to make sure I was ok and in a healthy relationship and making my own decisions. The second appointment was the good one for DH to be there.

My first appointment had an ultrasound so indefinitely wanted DH there. He goes to all appointments if he is off.

My husband didn't come to the first. Nothing much to see since it was so early at 6 weeks. But he came with me to the next one, where we saw the heartbeat and got the dating and viability. I say it depends on how far along u are at the first appointment.

He definitely will be coming with me to all first appointments. We found out we lost our first baby at the first appointment. He almost didn't come, but we're both so glad he did.

The only #2 appointments my husband has come to are the ultrasounds. If it's a "down there" appointment, I try to schedule it on a day where he can be home with #1 so I don't have to keep him entertained.

my first appt was just paperwork (with my only LO), but i wanted DH to come to meet our doctor. So i would say if you have a different care provider than last time, then i would bring him. If not and it's a quick boring appt, then i would wait for a more exciting one.

My first appointment was pretty uneventful. DH wasn't able to come. But he has been able to be at ultrasounds and other big appointments.

DH hasn't come to any of them with me. Haven't felt like its necessary, not our first rodeo.

Since this was baby #2 we skipped the intro meeting and they scheduled us straight for the ultrasound.

My first appointment I got a dating scan, but dh wasn't there. Next time I will call! I think different drs have different rules about bringing LOs.

DH only comes to the ultrasounds this time. My first appointment was just to meet with a nurse and get blood taken. I had a dating ultrasound with the second appointment so DH went to that one. I would just call to make sure you won't have an ultrasound at the first appointment.

DH only came with me to the ultrasound appt. He stayed home throughout this pregnancy to watch #1.

DH has only ever come to appts where we had a scan done, which is typically just a dating scan, NT, and the 20 week anatomy scan. Every other appt is pretty low key, just a BP check, fundal height, and the Doppler to hear the heartbeat; we don't have any 'down there' exams, nor do they even have scan machines in the midwives clinic (all scans are done at the radiology clinic), so there really is nothing exciting for him to see. He didn't come to any other appts the first time and definitely not this second time.

This is terrible, but I can't even remember if he came to my first appt with our first pregnancy. I don't think he did. I think he just came to the u/s appointment that was two weeks later. He came to pretty much all of my 14 ultrasounds though.

our first couple appts were eventful in that i got a dating US in which they didn't think the baby was viable and had to get additional testing when i insisted that i knew my cycles and that i was not as far along as my LMP indicated. so for me, i would have DH come to the first couple. after that, nope!

My docs do ultrasounds at the 1st app so my husband came along especially since 1st time around we had spontaneous twins ( he was there for that one thank goodness) and we wanted to see what 2nd would be. Just one 2nd time around.

Yes, my last pregnancy he always came to my appointments and he especially wants to go to this first one since we will see the baby for the first time.
Also, I know no one wants to think about it, but sometimes bad news is delivered at that first appointment and I would rather not be alone for that.

@Ree723: same over here in NZ, DH has been to all the ultrasounds at the radiology clinic. He's been to one midwife appointment during second trimester just cause he thought he should probably meet her before the day, but he won't bother next time.

@Boogs: yeah, that's why dh makes an effort to go in the beginning, since I was alone when I heard bad news the first time.

My husband wasn't in town when I had my first appt with is this (first) pregnancy. He only comes when he can, but we'd both rather him save his pto for when baby is here for the most part

DH came to the 20 week ultrasound for LO#2. For LO#3, he didn't make it to a single appointment! My OB/GYN didn't even meet up until delivery day (I've had a new doctor with each pregnancy). DD came to all my appointments for LO#2 and DD and DS#1 came to almost all my appointments for LO#3.

DH didn't come with me to the first appointment for my second pregnancy. I didn't see the doctor and just reviewed over information with the nurse. He went with me to the first three ultrasound appointments. I had over a dozen ultrasounds to keep track of my GD and didn't want to drag him to those appointments.
