Short version: The Statue of Liberty is re-opening to stairs to the crown July 4th. I'm due July 19th. The stairs have no A/C and there is no bathroom at the top....but I kind of really want to go, beacuse I'll already be out of work at that point. Would you attempt this if you were 9 1/2 months pregs? http://www.nps.gov/stli/planyourvisit/statue2012reopening.htm#whattoexpect
Slightly longer version: My first family trip to NYC when I was 10, we visited Liberty Island, but the inside of the statue was "closed for renovation". Samw story when we went back when I was about 14. Then I lost interest and in all my subsequent visits, didn't care to even check and see if it's open. When I moved here last summer, I saw that the statue was reopening in mid-October, and for some reason, I was really excited to *finally* go up the steps on the inside.
Then, literally one week after the re-opening (it had been clsoed since Sept 11th, almost continuously) Hurricane Sandy hit, and everything on the island was damaged, and therefore...closed again.
This July 4th, it re-opens....and it's been closed SO MUCH the last 25 years, I'm starting to feel like they may just close it permanently, and for some reason, I just REALLY want to say I've been up to the crown.
But I'm going to be 9 1/2 months pregnant, and there's no AC or bathroom at the top. My mom would be going with me, beacuse she's coming to sit babywatch with me until I go into labor. She's super active and a calming presence and what-not.
Am I overthinking this? WWYD?
