In the "marrying outside your religion" thread, some people seemed to say their LO's happiness is more important than the partner's religion. Curious if this extends beyond religion to gender too... would you be okay with it, as long as your LO was happy?

I would be 100% ok if LO came out to us. I think my DH might have a bit of a harder time with it, but ultimately, wouldn't make LO feel the effects of that. Love is love...and we both want him to be happy.

DH and I often sit and wonder if LO will be straight or gay and talk about her future boyfriends or girlfriends. So, yeah, we are pretty okay with her being a lesbian. I just want grand kids, I'd be bummed if she didn't want kids, though. What about my happiness?

Absolutely 100%. I do have to be honest and say that a part of me would be a little worried/sad that at some point in their life my child would most likely face some sort of negative comments or criticism because of their orientation, and that would hurt because its unfair and nobody wants their kid to have their feelings hurt!

Absolutely. No question about it. It would be hard for them because the area we live in is still very much homophobic, but I would for sure love them and support them no matter what.

If she fell in love with and wanted to marry a mailbox, I'd support her.

Yep, not an issue in my mind except that I hope people's tolerance and acceptance continues to improve so gay children don't feel singled out or ostracized in any way. But we live in a very liberal, crunchy area so fortunately that's not a huge concern here.

@CottonCandy: I also agree with this. We'd both be 100% okay with it if he is, but sort of hope he isn't only because we feel it could be a harder life for him. I'm hopeful that in 15, 20 years it will just be another thing, like having a certain eye color or something, but I think he'd have an easier time if he was straight. That's my only concern, though...that and grand-babies

I don't care who my children love, as long as they are good, respectful people. Purple, orange, tall, short, man, or woman - whatever floats their boat, and finds their lost remote. I just want my kids to find the love and happiness I've found with their father.

No LO's, but I already know that I would have absolutely no problem with it. DH, on the other hand, definitely would. Especially if we have a gay son. It would be very, very hard for him.

absolutely! nobody told me who i could fall in love with and marry, so why should i tell my children who they can or can't? so long as that person loves them, and treats them with respect, and they are happy, then we are happy

@mrsjazz: that is what I said to him! Teenage girls scare the crap out of me. He says that when it comes to fighting girls are awful, but nothing tops heartbreak brought by boys in girls.
I think he is traumatised by some of the youtube videos boys post about girls, teaching high school he sees too much!

It's okay. Then, like others have said, we won't have the teen boy problem. I would just worry about her socially and hope that in 20 years, society is much more accepting.
